Position Summary

The Student Success Coach advances Bellevue College's mission of equity, diversity, and inclusion by supporting OLS students with diverse learning needs in achieving academic, professional, and personal success. Through individualized coaching, 1:1 academic support, and executive functioning skill development, the position fosters students' self-advocacy, independence, and persistence, ensuring equitable access to college and career opportunities.   

This position is scheduled for 18 hours per week, typically spread across four or five weekdays, depending on program needs. The coach must be available 4 days per week between 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., with the remainder of hours scheduled flexibly in coordination with the supervisor to best support student availability, coaching sessions, and staff/faculty collaboration. Occasional adjustments may be made for meetings or special events.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Position Salary Range: $21.51/hour - $28.64/hour

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WPEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

This part-time position may not be eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits. Employees in this position will accrue other applicable leave benefits in accordance with College policies.

This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

About the Department

The OLS Program provides inclusive postsecondary education for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, supporting students in building skills for employment, independence, self-advocacy, and community participation. Through academic instruction, career preparation, work-based learning, and campus partnerships, OLS advances Bellevue College¿s goals of access, equity, inclusion, and student success.

Essential Functions

Student Support

  • Meet at agreed times with students with various disabilities both in group and individually, on site to provide supports to achieve goals including:
    • Learn and practice methods to cope with strong emotions and stress
    • Learn and apply strategies to stay on task and maintain attention
    • Learn how to get work started and persist with challenging work
    • Develop personalized systems to organize materials and work areas
    • Develop systems to start and complete assignments
    • Learn how to break assignments into smaller parts and plan when to do work
    • Develop self-reflection skills to help students take ownership of new habits
    • Identify and use technology that improves their productivity
    • Learn how to study and take tests effectively
    • Gain insight about what motivates them, and use that knowledge to be productive
    • Learn how to advocate for themselves with teachers
  • Provide/schedule 1:1 and small group academic support to students 
  • Build supportive relationships with students and take initiative to identify barriers to success, provide encouragement and problem-solving support, and connect students with resources and strategies that promote independence, self-advocacy, and persistence
  • Attend ¿Learning Lab¿ sessions on site during the week to be available to support students
  • Maintain records of student support provided, progress toward 

Program Support and Collaboration

  • Meet weekly and collaborate with supervisor to support students and instructors effectively
  • Attend and participate in program meetings and events
  • Communicate with faculty regularly on student strengths, needs and progress 
  • Report student concerns and needs to Associate Dean. Participates in the design of student¿s action plans as requested
  • Perform other duties as assigned
     
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate Degree or equivalent education and experience
  • At least two (2) years as a Para Educator/Aid, tutor, executive functioning coach
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams
  • Effective communication skills, demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse group of students, customers, participants and achieving effective results

Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of various disability traits and effective use of support techniques
