The Community Outreach Coordinator is primarily based at one target school and is responsible for recruiting, serving, and tracking the students at that school. During the academic year, this position works with students in both individual and group settings, providing them with services such as mentoring, tutoring, advising, and counseling in order to help students go on to college. This position will work closely with the other outreach staff member to meet annual recruitment numbers and serve the appropriate number of students. Other academic year activities may include developing and implementing student activities, workshops, and field trips, some of which may include overnight components, such as college visits, or career fairs.
The Community Outreach Coordinator will also recruit new students as needed each year, often through informal classroom presentations and student referrals. During the summer, the community outreach coordinator works with a team to develop and implement six weeks of residential summer programming. This varies in nature by year but often includes travel and some overnight stays (such as during main campus visits in Moscow or the MOSS campus in McCall, or during capstone trips to other areas). Position Qualifications
Required Experience | Experience with concepts and factors related to educational opportunity for populations including low-income and non-traditional students Implementing the following into student outreach: concepts and factors related to educational opportunity Experience working independently; using project targets to develop and schedule student activities, meet recruitment and student contact goals, create connections with target area stakeholders, document services and schedule time appropriately Experience with editing and writing business correspondence using proper grammar and punctuation as demonstrated in application materials Experience in program planning and implementation and conducting independent research Experience in student service delivery; in planning and coordinating educational activities; teaching, supervising, or counseling non-traditional students
Required Education | Bachelors Degree
Required Other | Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet requirements for driving university vehicles Ability to work nonstandard hours including evenings and weekends when necessary Ability to travel, occasionally overnight Ability to travel to visit with potential students where they are located, e.g. local educational institutions, public agencies and community organizations Ability to Live on-site to supervise students during six-week summer program
Additional Preferred | Master’s degree in relevant field OR valid Idaho teaching or counseling license Skills with using computer operation and software programs Knowledge of: risk management as it relates to college going processes and procedures Experience with: Major program planning, coordination and implementation Developing professional, productive relationships in order to provide services Program evaluation Staff supervision Writing reports Developing policies and procedures Ability to manage project social media accounts and web presence, including updating social media and website with announcements, scheduled events, and other project missives to increase student engagement
