Job Summary
Systems Administrator
The Price College of Engineers seeks a highly detail-oriented and experienced Systems Administrator to manage and maintain our critical academic and research computing environment, including all dedicated lab servers, user workstations, access control systems, secure enclaves, and associated peripherals. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and operational efficiency of systems used by students and faculty, with a strong focus on automation and compliance.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities

I. Server and System Maintenance

  • Perform monthly Windows Server maintenance, including patching, updates, and backups across all dedicated lab and licensing servers.
  • Manage and maintain the WSUS Server and the KMS Server for volume licensing of Windows and MS Office products.
  • Configure, administer and maintain specialized engineering applications and upgrade specialized tools like SolidWorks,, AutoCAD, and Synopsys.
  • Execute and maintain all automated powershell scripts for essential system functions, including account cleanup, doorlock updates, and logon accounting.
  • Manage and update computer lab systems monthly.

II. Workstation and Lab Management

  • Lead the CADE Windows LabImaging process, including image preparation (two weeks per semester), physical lab imaging (one week per semester), and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) image preparation.
  • Perform mid-semester Lab Software Maintenance to ensure all required applications are functional.
  • Maintain and organize data within the Labstats database, including organizing computer groups and running annual or requested reports.
  • Manage lab computer physical keys and utilize LAPS Password Management for securing local administrator credentials.
  • Perform daily checks on lab computers using monitoring tools like Nagios to identify and resolve performance issues.

III. Identity, Access, and Security

  • Manage Active Directory (AD) objects, including the creation, modification, and deletion of User, Computer, and Group objects on an as-needed basis.
  • Develop and manage Group Policy settings to enforce security and configuration standards across the lab environment.
  • Manage security software, including the deployment and web interface management of Tanium, BeyondTrust and Microsoft Defender.
  • Manage Authlite / Yubikey for secure system access.

IV. Printer and Peripheral Support

  • Manage the entire lifecycle of lab printers, including purchasing supplies (toner, paper), replacing toner, filling paper (weekly), and repairing units when necessary.
  • Administer the PaperCut / Print Quotas system, including software updates, managing user groups for color printing access, syncing AD groups, and approving refund requests (weekly).
  • Manage various system and software licenses across the environment.
  • Provide secure backup of lab exams for administrative personnel

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

Systems Administrator, I: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) degree.
Systems Administrator, II: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
  • Proven experience (3+ years preferred) in system administration, specifically managing Windows Server and desktop environments in a high-density, multi-user lab setting.
  • Expertise in Windows Server patching,WSUS,and KMS.
  • In-depth knowledge of Active Directory User and Group management, and Group Policy Management.
  • Experience with disk imaging technology, SCCM or other deployment systems, and VDI image preparation.
  • Familiarity with network security tools such as Tanium and Microsoft Defender.
  • Experience administering print management software, PaperCut, and physical printer maintenance/repair.
  • Ability to write and maintain scripting/automation (Cron Jobs, PowerShell).
  • Experience running and maintaining an Active Directory environment.
  • Experience writing and maintaining administrations scripts, powershell, bash, cmd, etc.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix command line or server environments.
  • Experience with specific tools mentioned (ADaudit Plus, Authlite, Labstats, Nagios).
  • Relevant certifications (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator/Engineer)
