Department Summary
The UNT TRIO Programs house the following TRIO Programs: Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Student Support Services. All programs are funded through the U.S. Department of Education. We are a team of dedicated individuals who are working toward increasing the number of college-degreed people in our target areas.

osition Overview
This position is for a college prep advisor. The position is located in Gainesville TX at Gainesville High School. The candidate will serve approximately 100 high school students assisting them with academic skill development and college/career exploration and choosing a course of postsecondary education.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Counseling, Education, Social Work or in a similar degree field. 
  • Ability to drive to Gainesville High School on a daily basis with reliable transportation. 
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in the college application and Financial Aid process. 
  • Ability to communicate and work with a population of students who face socio-economic barriers. 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. Excellent verbal written communication, and computer skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent Spanish speaking skills, for parent interactions.
  • Experience in educating students. 
  • Familiar with the TRIO Talent Search Program processes and goals. Will give preference to candidates with TRIO experience. 
  • Excellent knowledge and skilled in the college application process, the Financial Aid process.
  • Excellent verbal written communication, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent Spanish speaking skills, for parent meetings.
  • Experience in educating students in the college prep and financial aid processes. 
  • Familiar with the TRIO Talent Search Program goals. Will give preference to candidates with TRIO experience.

Job Duties:
Coordinate summer activities for students such as leadership, college and career field trips for students Assist rising seniors in completing financial aid and college application completion. Work closely with Gainesville ISD school administrators, students, and community organizations. Collaborate with these stakeholders to coordinate events and activities for Gainesville HS participants. Assist students in writing and perfecting their college/scholarship essays Maintain files on participants and accurate documentation of services given

Physical Requirements:
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.

Work Schedule:8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday, some weekend work.
