Description of Work 
The University of Nebraska Testing Ag Performance Solutions (UNL-TAPS) is an innovative program developed by University of Nebraska research and extension specialists and educators. Rather than the typical teacher and student paradigm, the program facilitates a number of interactive real-life farm management competitions. These competitions bring together UNL scientists and extension professionals, producers, industry leaders, agriculture students, government regulators and agency personnel to become part of a highly engaged network focused on evolving profitability and input-use efficiency.

As the TAPS Research Manager, you will:
Independently manage day-to-day field and laboratory operations. Coordinate all research projects and contracts. Supervise technicians, on call employees, interns, graduate students, and summer helpers for the irrigation research team. Operate, maintain, as well as train others to use specialized pesticide application and agricultural equipment necessary to conduct research, including precision farm equipment like guided tractors, precision planters and applicators. Design experiments that accommodate research goals and objectives while considering physical, economic, and/or other constraints that can affect the study. Design and fabricate experimental equipment (e.g., soil press, sensing platform, etc.) for both field and laboratory studies to achieve the dynamic requirements of specific research trials. Interact with industry, non-profit organizations, regulatory groups, farmers, and/or fellow research teams through the entire contract or grant cycle (i.e., development, deployment, monitoring, and completion) to ensure goals and objectives are being fulfilled.

Minimum Required Qualifications 
Bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering, mechanized systems management, or related field. Four years of work experience in agriculture including pesticide management and/or irrigation. Additional years of relevant education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience leading a team or providing training and/or supervision. Valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
