Job Summary

The Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) is seeking a Technical Business Analyst. The business analyst will provide a primary role in the design and support of research applications and will not be involved in data analysis or retrieval. The primary applications, the Electronic Research Integrity & Compliance (ERICA) System and Business Relationship Reporting (BRR), are developed from the Huron Click Research Suite for use in Conflict of Interest (COI) and Institutional Review Board (IRB). This role is centered on software development, with no duties related to data analysis or architecture.

This role partners with business stakeholders, end users, and developers to analyze operations, document and communicate requirements, translate user needs into user stories and technical specifications, and create process flows and other project documentation that support solution design and delivery. In addition to requirements and analysis work, this position may also create and modify technical forms, configure system functionality, and implement low-code or similar technical solutions to meet business needs.

The Technical Business Analyst plays an important role throughout the system development lifecycle, from discovery and design through testing, training, and deployment, and applies independent judgment to help align technical solutions with business and compliance needs.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, effective communication abilities, a solid understanding of financial and/or research administration systems, and the ability to translate complex business needs into technical requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Translate product vision into detailed specifications for the development team.
  • Align information technology systems with business operations by analyzing and developing innovative solutions
  • Engage end users and stakeholders to document and communicate organization requirements.
  • Translate organization requirements and user needs into user stories.
  • Create and update documentation of detailed technical specifications and project plans.
  • Present user requirements, functional specifications, technical specifications, and process flow diagrams to the development team.
  • Participate in meetings to clarify requirements, create design approaches, provide training, and answer questions from the development team.
  • Requires moderate skill set and proficiency in discipline.
  • Conduct work assignments of increasing complexity, under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgement.

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

Technical Business Analyst, I: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) degree.

Technical Business Analyst, II: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
