Technical Trainer & Instructional Designer Full Description

The Elevator Pitch 
The Technical Trainer & Instructional Designer is a hybrid, hands-on role responsible primarily for delivering in-person Technical Certification training for Evolv products, with a focus on Installation and Service certifications. This role serves as a critical front-line educator for partners, customers, and internal technical teams. 

When not actively delivering instructor-led training, the role transitions into a secondary instructional design and content development function, supporting the creation, maintenance, and evolution of certification curriculum, training assets, and technical learning materials across Evolv’s learning platforms. 

What are performance outcomes over the first 12 months you will work toward completing? 

First 30–90 Days:  
  • Build strong foundational knowledge of Evolv products, customers, and use cases. 
  • Become fluent in Evolv’s learning ecosystem (Learning Management Systems, Content Management, Knowledge Base). 
  • Shadow and support live training sessions (internal, partner, and customer‑facing). 
  • Contribute to the update or creation of training content (agendas, modules, scripts, and videos). 
  • Demonstrate understanding of learner personas (operators, installers, service, admins). 
 
3-6 Months:  
  • Independently deliver live training sessions. 
  • Own and maintain defined training content or learning paths. 
  • Design and develop new instructional materials aligned to product updates and learner needs. 
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Product, CX, and Documentation teams. 
  • Incorporate feedback and assessments to continuously improve training effectiveness. 
 
6-12 Months: 
  • Lead larger training initiatives, certifications, and onboarding programs. 
  • Maintain training materials to accurately reflect product modifications and field updates. 
  • Alignment between classroom instruction and documented training assets. 
  • Collaborate with teams conducting in-person training in the field, aligning material and learning techniques. 
 
 1+ year:  
  • Influence training strategy, scalability, and long‑term learning roadmap. 
  • Consistent, high-quality delivery of in-person Technical Certification training. 
  • Partner strategically with Product, Customer Experience, and other stakeholders to ensure training readiness and adoption. 
  • Continuously evaluate and improve training effectiveness to support partner effectiveness, customer outcomes and business growth. 
  
The Work: What type of work will you be doing?  
In-Person Technical Training 
  • Deliver in-person Technical Certification training for Evolv products, including Installer and Service Technician certifications. 
  • Facilitate multi-day, hands-on training sessions covering system installation, configuration, diagnostics, and maintenance. 
  • Serve as the lead instructor during certification programs, ensuring consistent delivery of approved curriculum. 
  • Evaluate learner performance through practical assessments, certification exams, and instructor recommendations. 
  • Act as a subject-matter expert during training engagements, reinforcing best practices and real-world application. 
  • Travel as required to deliver onsite training at Evolv facilities, partner locations, or customer sites. 
Instructional Design & Content Development  
  • Collaborate with Training & Documentation, Product, Engineering, and Technical Operations teams to update certification curriculum. 
  • Support the creation and maintenance of instructor-led training decks, facilitator guides, and assessments. 
  • Contribute to installation and service documentation, quick-reference guides, and job aids. 
  • Apply instructional design best practices to improve clarity, structure, and learner outcomes. 
  • Ensure alignment between in-person training content and digital learning platforms. 
  • Provide equipment demonstrations for the Sales and Marketing teams. 
  • Audit training package routinely for learning and engagement improvement. 
  • Engage in development activity during product beta testing. 
 
What We’re Looking For: 
Required Qualifications 
  • 3+ years of experience delivering technical, hands-on training. 
  • Strong understanding of installation, service, and troubleshooting workflows. 
  • Proven ability to lead instructor-led training with confidence and credibility. 
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining technical training content. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Background as an Installer, Service Technician, Field Engineer, or Technical Support Specialist. 
  • Experience in instructional design, learning & development, or technical documentation. 
  • Familiarity with certification programs or technical accreditation models. 
  • Experience working with LMS platforms or structured certification curricula. 
 
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team? 
This role reports to the Director of Training and Documentation within our Go To Market team. The Training and Documentation team supports our Evolv go to market team, as well as our channel partners.  
 
Where is the role located? 
Location:  
This role is based at our headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts. We expect you to work from the office most days – with flexibility to work remotely for one-off needs.  
 
Travel: 
There is minimal travel required with this role.  
 
Compensation and Transparency Statement  
The base salary range for this full-time position is $102,000- $166,000. In addition to base salary, this role offers a competitive target bonus, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package. This range reflects our commitment to pay transparency and equity, in alignment with applicable state laws. Our compensation ranges are determined based on factors such as role, level, location, market benchmarks, and internal equity.
