Minimum Experience/Education | Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the area of assignment; or bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the area of assignment; or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education | Four or more years of work experience with automated systems in a complex network environment. Successful experience working in an end-user, customer facing role in a trouble-shooting capacity. Knowledge of a wide variety of technologies to effectively support end-user technical needs including computing devices, operating systems, network technologies, printers and peripherals, and a variety of software applications (desktop, client-server, browser-based, etc.); principles of troubleshooting and analysis; methods and techniques used in the installation, trouble shooting, problem resolution and maintenance of information systems hardware and software. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a project team. Ability to accurately troubleshoot and diagnose technology issues in a complex networked environment. Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively to make necessary decisions and respond to emergency situations and to effectively work with end-users to address and resolve technical issues.

Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position | The purpose of this position is to provide IT support to the faculty and staff in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

With programs and expertise in such areas as biotechnology, agricultural and biosystems engineering, natural resources management, waste management, and food microbiology, the A&T College of Agriculture grows concurrently with the demand for qualified graduates. Key Responsibilities and Related Competencies

Duties | Manages and coordinates on-going hardware and software needs of the CAES to include repair, acquisition and software installation and help desk functions.
Provides technical support to staff, faculty, administrators, and students in assigned buildings: Carver Hall, Coltrane Hall, Sockwell Hall, Child Development Lab, Benbow Hall, CH Moore Research Station, University Farm, and Webb Hall.
Serves as back-up to the other CAES Technical Support Analysts. Supports CAES departments and units: Center of Excellence in Post Harvest Technology at the NCRC, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Animal Sciences, Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, Department of Ag Business,
Applied Economics, and Agriscience Education, the University Farm, the Agricultural Research Station, the CAES Dean’s Office, Agricultural Communications, the Office of Agricultural Research, and Cooperative Extension. Conducts informal training sessions on new software and applications related to CAES functions. Creates brief tutorials and training documents with screenshots of procedures that are needed to operate equipment. Performs routine and non-routine diagnostics and maintenance on these operating systems: Windows Server 2012, 2008, Print Manager, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Windows 11 and Windows 10.
Understands the diagnosis and time needed to make labor-intensive corrections of the operating systems: corrections are found via an event manager software, which sends an alert to email.
Tests servers regularly, usually after 5 pm when the users are not affected.
Modifies, upgrades, and patches the following systems and software: Windows 11, Windows 10, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM). System Center
Operations Manager, Microsoft Project, Lumion 3d software, Netop Vision, Sketch-up, AutoCAD, Smart Notebook, Adobe Creative Cloud, SPSS, SAS.
Resolves most incident tickets escalated to the Technology Support Analyst, which is submitted in the form of daily email requests and using the TeamDynamix Ticketing System. Creates and transfers document, develop small databases, calculates statistical analysis to support office functions. Identifies trends and makes suggestions for technical modifications to resolve existing
and future problems. Helps ensure the effective utilization of the College’s technological resources by serving the College in a consultative role regarding new computer systems and modifications to existing systems, evaluating and recommending software and hardware, developing specifications and assisting in the purchasing process, assisting in the development of University Web Standards (security, ID validation, user authorization, web presentation, etc.), and adhering to the University’s standards and guidelines related to the web.
Supports various software and programming packages which requires familiarity with manipulation of data between packages or with other computer systems. Uses appropriate guidelines and manuals for certain problems with software and hardware or consults with technical support at other locations for resolution.

Duties | Improves efficiency of systems assigned to meet client needs. Provides training to faculty and staff in the use of current technology (including equipment and software) to meet the academic, research, and extension goals of the College.
Observes system processes to note problem execution or errors and initiate corrective actions. Upgrades desktop computers for research faculty and staff, cooperative extension staff, instructional faculty and staff and administrative staff with the most current operating systems, processors, and drives for greater productivity. Automates the installation of operating system images on computer systems for greater efficiency. Manages individual accounts to maximize server space for greater operational efficiency. Coordinates contacts with vendors to determine best options for change recommendations and implementations. Documents basic procedures and solutions on the website for easy accessibility. Documents client interactions and solutions in database on a shared drive. Reports incidents using the TeamDynamix Ticketing System for follow up and solution documentation. Maintains records of work activities and documents recurring, difficult or complex problems; identifies trends, recommends solutions and resources.
Reviews user requirements and needs for software and services; performs related research and analysis and provides information and guidance to users; coordinates implementation, installation, and training.
Required Competency | Planning and Organizing
Duties | Maintains a database file that includes all information related to the computer
equipment. Generates reports that provides information by person, location, property numbers, vendors, etc. Develops and/or coordinates training for staff and keeps records to determine training needs of CAES faculty and staff and technical competency levels of CAES faculty and staff. Advises and assists with recommendations to administration on equipment purchases
and training needs. Coordinates and interacts with other IT team members and serves as a liaison between IT and users to communicate end-user needs and ensure effective solutions are implemented. Actively participates in departmental, committee, and technical meetings to discuss and resolve user issues and implement new projects.
Attends training sessions, conferences, classes and utilizes online resources to maintain and update skills and knowledge as necessary to keep current on relevant technologies.

Duties | Manages server accounts, shared network resources and network support for CAES. Maintains and updates skills and knowledge as necessary to keep current on relevant technologies such as Windows NT domain and controllers, etc.
Provides recommendations on expenditures for equipment and software to meet the academic, research, and extension needs of the College.

Duties | Writes programs/code for testing and implementing processes on servers.
Understands Voice Over Internet Protocol (Voip), computer configurations including operating systems – applications – and infrastructure. Networking and configuring IP addressing, and Internet connectivity. Understands AudioNideo, Skype, Zoom, Office Suites, Operating Systems on various platforms, Server Management, and Active Directory. Understands print management and how to assign users and levels of access and control. Understands wireless system technology and providing levels of access to users. Understands how to assign IP addresses and associated devices. Understands Android and Mac based systems for connectivity and access to wireless network.
Understands how to create cables as needed for Internet access. Maps CAES servers based on location of clients for connectivity to university networking
systems to provide access to faculty and staff. Applies knowledge of server configuration (virtual and physical), virtual private network (VPN) for remote access to servers to diagnose and solve problems, data pathways
between multiple servers, and configurations to implement backup processes.

Duties | Consults with a variety of clients within the CAES, including administrators (deans, directors, department chairs, etc.) on all matters relating to computer needs and uses, to include selection, maintenance and long-range planning.
Requests for consultation also come from individual staff, faculty and students.
Interacts with colleagues on the CAES IT team, University ITS, vendors, and with clients in the CAES. Asks pertinent questions, listens carefully, and communicates clearly, often in nontechnical terms.
