Pay Range Information
Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The Employee Relations Specialist supports Employee Relations. The position supports an array of functions including but not limited to Employee Relations Conflict Resolutions and investigations, Performance Management documentation as well as knowledge of Title VII/Title IX/Harassment and Discrimination Investigations. 
As an experienced professional with a comprehensive understanding of employee relations, the Employee Relations Specialist resolves a variety of complex and sensitive employee relations issues, advising and counseling client groups to resolve questions, concerns, and complaints. 
The Employee Relations Specialist will be collaborative and approachable and embrace Chapman’s mission and culture. The desired candidate is respectful, hands-on, flexible and adaptable, knowledgeable, and operates with the highest principles of integrity and confidentiality.
This is a temporary position covering a leave of absence until approximately August, 2026.
Responsibilities
Employee Relations 
  • Conducts intake services for the Employee Relations units by serving as the first point of contact for employees with questions; provides general information related to disciplinary processes.
  • Work cross functionally with Student facing organizations
  • Works with the AVP of Employee Relations Services on complaints, investigations, and intakes and report writing, prepares documents, letters, and other communication materials related to performance management, investigations, etc.
  • Supports the disciplinary and separation processes and conducts exit interviews to ensure proper information is captured, recorded, and available for analyses.
  • Maintains documentation and files for investigations, incidents, and programs as needed
Reporting Analytics & Data Maintenance
  • Maintains all recordkeeping and reporting on investigations, incidents, and programs within Human Resources.
  • Collects and analyzes employee relations data and prepares standard and ad-hoc reports utilizing data and data analytics, as required.
Other Duties as Assigned
  • Handles special projects and other HR related functions as necessary.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related field, preferred.
  • Four years’ experience working in Employee Relations with strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with the public, faculty, students and staff in daily operations
  • Possesses strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and systematically gather relevant information, identify root causes, and effectively present data
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise excellent judgment and discretion when responding to employee relations related requests and handle very difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively.
  • Ability to learn organizational policies and procedures, knowledge of functional area and understands how work may affect other areas.
  • Ability to provide guidance to managers and employees on complex and significant employee relations issues.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet established and variable deadlines, flexibility to respond in stressful situations and unexpected job demands with frequent interruptions and minimum supervision.
  • Skilled in maintaining policy and procedural documentation.
  • Excellent writing skills to prepare clear, concise and well-written documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Suite applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
