Job SummaryThe Kentucky Fire Commission is committed to enhancing safety and education within the fire service for the citizens and industries within the Commonwealth through standardized special and technical education, training, communication, coordination, and the distribution of funds to the agencies throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
The Training Specialist plans, prepares and conducts training at The Fire Academy of Kentucky. The Training Specialist is responsible for ensuring that equipment and curriculum needs are ready and available.
Job Duties:Prepare and review curriculum for courses including Resource One assignments, work with The Fire Academy of Kentucky Coordinator and other Fire Academy of Kentucky Training Specialists to create a training schedule and provide instruction and evaluation of courses.
Ensure that equipment is serviced and is operational for each course. Work with The Fire Academy of Kentucky Coordinator to procure equipment and schedule service and maintenance for existing equipment.
Work with The Fire Academy of Kentucky and Accredited Certification Coordinators to schedule courses for certification testing. Ensure that all documents and equipment are available for courses for certification including transporting equipment when needed.
Collaborate with the Director of Training, Region One and Two Directors, The Fire Academy of Kentucky Coordinator, Academic Coordinator for Curriculum and Fire Science Training, and/or District Training Coordinators to survey and determine training needs and assist with scheduling.
Assist with maintaining and repairing facilities and grounds and providing other services as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:Education Preparation-Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent
Relative Experience-3 years
Required licenses and certifications:
• Kentucky Fire Commission Basic II or equivalent
• Accredited certifications for Firefighter I and II
• Live Fire Instructor (eligible) and Live Fire Instructor In Charge (eligible)
• EMT or Paramedic
Preferred Qualifications:Educational Preparation-Associate Degree Fire Science Technology, Fire Administration, or Fire Protection Technology
Relevant Experience-5 years
Licenses and Certifications:
• Fire Officer I and II
• Fire Instructor I and II
• EMS Educator and Evaluator
• DO Aerial
• Driver Operator (DO) Pumper
• CDL preferred due to equipment movement
• Mobile Water Supply
