We are seeking an experienced Transitional Kindergarten (TK) English Language Arts (ELA) and English Language Development (ELD) Specialist to review and provide feedback on the development of a comprehensive teacher-facing TK ELA/ELD course. This course is designed to support California TK educators in implementing high-quality ELA and ELD instruction aligned with California PTKLF standards and developmentally appropriate practices.

  • Course Review and Feedback
  • Collaborate with the instructional design team during the initial analysis phase to develop a comprehensive scope and sequence and to identify priority content areas.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of course content, modules, and learning activities to ensure alignment with California's PTKLF standards.
  • Assess the developmental appropriateness of instructional strategies and pedagogical approaches for TK learners.
  • Provide detailed, actionable feedback on course materials that will be implemented by content writers.

  • Content Expertise and Consultation
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on TK literacy development, early reading and writing skills, oral language development, and phonological awareness.
  • Advise on best practices for supporting English Learners in the TK setting, including integrated and designated ELD strategies.
  • Ensure cultural and linguistic responsiveness throughout course materials.
  • Recommend evidence-based instructional practices and current research in early literacy education.

  • Quality Assurance
  • Verify accuracy of content related to TK ELA/ELD standards, benchmarks, and learning progressions.
  • Ensure course content reflects current California Department of Education guidance and initiatives.
  • Review materials for clarity, coherence, and accessibility for teacher learners.

What we're looking for...
  • Master's degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Literacy, or related fieldEnglish Learner authorization (CLAD, BCLAD, or equivalent) preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of successful TK or kindergarten teaching experience in California public schools.
  • Demonstrated expertise in implementing California's ELA/ELD Framework in early childhood settings.
  • Experience with curriculum development, review, or instructional coaching.
  • Proven track record of supporting English Learners in early literacy development.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Deep understanding of California's TK standards, Preschool Learning Foundations, and the ELA/ELD Framework.
  • Expertise in developmentally appropriate practices for 4-5 year old learners.
  • Strong knowledge of early literacy development, including phonological awareness, print concepts, and emergent writing.
  • Understanding of play-based and child-centered learning approaches.
  • Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide constructive, specific feedback to content developers.

Hourly compensation range is dependent on geographic location, prior experience, seniority, and demonstrated role related ability during the interview process.
