TRIO Talent Search Tutors Full Description

Overview: 
USU Blanding is accepting applications for candidates to tutor TRIO Talent Search participants in academic subjects such as English, math, science, foreign language, and study skills, as well as standardized test preparation, and assisting with financial literacy workshops and high school orientations. These are part-time positions on an 'as needed' basis. Multiple positions are available at Grand County Middle and High Schools, Monticello, San Juan, Whitehorse, Monument Valley, and Red Mesa High schools, and Albert R. Lyman Middle School.
 
This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah. 

Responsibilities: 
  • Assist ETS students in improving academic achievement either in a group or individually by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills.
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate, and complete records of student contacts and progress.
  • Meet with ETS Advisor and/or Director regularly to ascertain participant's progress and address any concerns.
  • Assist the ETS Advisors and/or Director in conducting college admissions and financial literacy workshops, as well as high school orientations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must have a solid academic background in Math, Science, and/or English.
  • Must have superb analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Must be available to tutor after school hours, some evenings and Saturdays.
  • Friendly, patient, and sensitive to a diversity of students.
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills.
  • Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to and from the tutoring site and must complete and pass a background check before hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual in Navajo or Spanish.
  • Bachelor's degree in math, Science, or English.
  • Preference to applicants from socio economic backgrounds similar to ETS participants and/or have a working knowledge of TRIO programs.
  • Exceptional listener and communicator who effectively conveys information verbally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Cultural sensitivity and an ability to build rapport with a diverse workforce in multicultural settings.
