General Information:
The University Business Office (UBO) at James Madison University is accepting applications for a Veterans Affairs Coordinator. The University Business Office is responsible for processing all charges and payments on student accounts. The office works closely with students and families, and coordinates billings, payment plans and collections efforts for the university.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collaborates with the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, Office of the Registrar, and University Business Office staff to administer military aid, including processing and posting Post 9/11 GI Bill payments as they arrive. 
• Serves as a trained and qualified point of contact for Service members for military tuition assistance programs. 
• Manages account logins for various federal systems to check fund availability, request funds, and coordinate the dispersal of funds to the appropriate accounts.
• Serves as point of contact to address technological concerns for families, students, and colleagues. 
• Works with colleagues to determine reporting needs and create/modify reports when appropriate.
• Serves as JMU representative to the multiple vendors used by the Business Office.
• Maintains in-depth knowledge of the Student Finance Module of the Student Administration System and helps coordinate Tuition Calculation setup alongside UBO’s Systems Coordinator.
• Partners with the Systems Coordinator to conduct new system functionality/patch testing.
• Ensures the University Business Office website is accessible and that content is accurate, timely, and provides information that can be used as a resource for JMU families as well as JMU faculty/staff. 
• Returns unclaimed refunds to the Virginia Department of the Treasury.
 
Qualifications:
Required:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability communicate with military families and work with a variety of customers, both technical and non-technical.
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft365 (with a focus on Excel and Word).
• Exceptional attention to detail and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work within a team. 
• Experience working within multiple systems and troubleshooting technical problems.
• Ability to self-start and work independently to resolve issues. 

Additional Considerations:
• Knowledge of veterans tuition assistance programs.
• Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to financial aid disbursements.
