Location: This is a fully remote role. Candidates who live near College Board offices have the option of being fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office).

About the Team   
College Board reaches more than 7 million students a year, helping them navigate the path from high school to college and career. Our not-for-profit membership organization was founded more than 125 years ago. We pioneered programs like the SAT Suite and AP to expand opportunities for students and help them develop the skills they need. Our BigFuture program helps students plan for college, pay for college, and explore careers.  
 
The Engagement and Reach (EaR) team is responsible for communicating key messages to students, parents, educators, policymakers, the media, member organizations, and staff and expanding the reach of the organization’s highest priority programs and initiatives.   
 
About the Opportunity    
The Vice President of Engagement and Reach plays a critical leadership role in shaping how the organization tells its story, engages with key audiences, and drives visibility and reach for its products, tools, and mission. Reporting to the Chief Engagement and Reach Officer (CERO), the VP serves as a strategic partner and operational leader—functioning as a "COO" of the division—helping to manage talent, drive performance, oversee financial stewardship, and deliver high-impact outcomes across the team. 
 
You are a mission-aligned, audience-centered leader who thrives at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and execution. You bring a deep understanding of how to reach and engage a wide range of audiences—students, families, educators, and institutional leaders—through authentic, data-informed, and strategic communications. You are also an exceptional team builder and operational manager who can translate vision into systems, structure, and results. 
 
In this role, you will:  
Lead brand and strategic communications (25%)
  • As the VP, you will steward a compelling, consistent brand narrative across all platforms and audiences.  
  • You will develop and implement a cross-channel communications strategy that reflects the organization's mission, voice, and values. 
  • You will oversee program communications, media engagement, and crisis communications in alignment with organizational priorities. 
  • You will partner with internal teams to ensure alignment and cohesion across all public-facing messages and campaigns.
Drive audience reach and engagement (25%)
  • You will lead integrated strategies to expand reach, deepen engagement, and drive awareness and adoption of key offerings among target audiences. 
  • You will ensure that messaging is informed by audience insights and performance data. 
  • You will oversee the planning and execution of content, digital, and social strategies that elevate the organization’s visibility and impact. 
  • You will manage external vendors and partnerships that enhance the effectiveness and scale of outreach efforts.  
Advance operational and organizational excellence (20%)
  • You will oversee goal-setting, financial planning, budget management, and progress monitoring for the full Engagement and Reach division. 
  • You will ensure effective staffing, resourcing, and team infrastructure to support strategic priorities. 
  • You will partner closely with the CERO to translate vision into execution, continuously improving processes, systems, and performance. 
  • You will promote a culture of accountability, measurement, and learning, grounded in clear outcomes and results. 
Promote innovation, insights, and influence (15%)
  • You will use audience research, data, and emerging trends to refine and evolve communication and engagement strategies. 
  • You will pilot new tools, formats, and approaches to ensure messaging remains relevant, resonant, and accessible. 
  • You will represent the organization as a visible and credible voice in education and social impact spaces, including conferences, coalitions, and strategic partnerships. 
  • You will build and maintain relationships with media, influencers, and thought leaders to extend the organization’s presence and influence. 
Lead and grow a high-performing team (15%)
  • Lead a 40+ person team, through layers, that is responsible for shaping how the organization tells its story, engages with key audiences, and drives visibility and reach for its products, tools, and mission.
  • Set vision and priorities for the team, track and mange progress to goals, and provide coaching and support to ensure team members meet and exceed goals, remain engaged, and contribute meaningfully to our mission.
  • Cultivate an inclusive and high achieving culture that enables all team members to live out College Board’s Operating Principles

About You  
To qualify for this role, you must have:​ 
  • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in strategic communications, audience engagement, or public affairs. 
  • Proven experience and ability to live out College Board’s Manager Expectations, including but not limited to:

  • Skilled communicator with outstanding writing, editing, and storytelling abilities across formats and audiences. 
  • Experience using data and feedback loops to inform communications and drive continuous improvement. 
  • A confident collaborator and thought partner who thrives in cross-functional settings and senior leadership teams. 
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in communications, public policy, business, or related field preferred. 
  • The ability to travel 8-10 times a year to College Board offices or on behalf of College Board business.
