Description
Hofstra University invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Student Success. Reporting directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Vice Provost serves as the University’s senior academic leader for undergraduate education, student success, academic policy, and curricular innovation.

As Hofstra advances the ambitious goals of Hofstra 100 and prepares for its centennial in 2035, the Vice Provost will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping an exceptional undergraduate experience that prepares students to thrive in an increasingly complex, interconnected, and rapidly changing world. The successful candidate will serve as a visible advocate for undergraduate education, championing academic excellence, innovation, student success, belonging, interdisciplinary learning, global and community engagement, and evidence-based decision-making across the institution.

The Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Student Success provides strategic leadership for undergraduate academic affairs, advancing an integrated and student-centered experience from matriculation through graduation. Working collaboratively with academic deans, faculty, student affairs, enrollment management, and administrative leaders, the Vice Provost strengthens partnerships, promotes shared governance, and advances institutional priorities that support academic excellence, innovation, and student success.

Guided by Hofstra University’s mission and values, the Vice Provost leads initiatives that enhance academic advising, curriculum development, general education, experiential learning, undergraduate research, academic policy, and student success. The position is responsible for advancing institutional goals related to student retention, persistence, graduation, engagement, academic achievement, and postgraduate success.

As a member of the Provost’s Senior Leadership Team, the Vice Provost partners with faculty governance and campus leaders to develop innovative academic initiatives and provides strategic oversight for the Center for University Advising, Center for Academic Excellence, New Opportunities at Hofstra (NOAH), and Study Abroad. The Vice Provost also serves as the Provost’s liaison to the University Senate Committee on Undergraduate Academic Affairs, working collaboratively with faculty governance on undergraduate academic policy and curricular initiatives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provides visionary leadership for undergraduate education that aligns with Hofstra’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Leads initiatives that promote student success, improve retention and graduation rates, and enhance the overall undergraduate experience through a holistic approach that integrates academic achievement, engagement, belonging, and career readiness.
  • Advances innovative undergraduate curricula, general education, interdisciplinary learning, and high impact educational practices.
  • Oversees undergraduate academic policies, curriculum approval processes, and academic standards while supporting accreditation and regulatory compliance.
  • Promotes excellence in advising, academic support, student engagement, and evidence-based student success strategies.
  • Fosters collaboration across academic affairs, student affairs, enrollment management, institutional research, information technology and other campus partners to ensure a seamless student experience.
  • Supports innovative teaching and learning, including the thoughtful integration of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence to enhance student learning and academic support.
  • Expands opportunities for experiential learning, undergraduate research, internships, community-engaged learning, and global education.
  • Leads assessment efforts through the use of student success data, institutional analytics, and measurable outcomes.
  • Promotes academic integrity, equitable student support, and a culture of excellence, belonging, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with academic and administrative leaders and represents the University in initiatives that advance undergraduate education and student success.
  • Performs other duties and provide leadership on strategic institutional initiatives as assigned by the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Qualifications
  • Terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) in an academic discipline.
  • Experience as a tenured faculty member, preferably at the rank of Professor.
  • Minimum 3 years leadership experience in academic affairs, undergraduate education, student success, advising, or a related area.
  • Demonstrated success leading initiatives that improve student retention, persistence, graduation, and educational outcomes.
  • Experience with curriculum development, academic policy, accreditation, assessment, and shared governance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered leadership, inclusive excellence, and organizational collaboration.
  • Strong analytical, communication, strategic planning, and consensus-building skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading institution-wide student success initiatives.
  • Experience overseeing advising, academic support, or undergraduate academic affairs.
  • Familiarity with predictive analytics, student success technologies, and data-informed decision-making.
  • Experience promoting interdisciplinary education, experiential learning, undergraduate research, and community-engaged learning.
  • Demonstrated commitment to innovation in teaching and learning.

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
