What You Will Do:
The Back End Web Developer will be responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of back-end systems and server-side logic for web applications. This position works closely with senior developers and stakeholders to support feature development, database integration, and API connectivity. Participates in testing, deployment, and debugging, with a focus on learning modern back-end frameworks, improving application performance, and ensuring data integrity and security.
This is a grant-funded position through June 30, 2027 or other date as determined by administration. Essential Responsibilities:
- Assists in developing, testing, and maintaining server-side application logic using PHP, Python, or Node.js within a web framework (e.g., Laravel, Django)
- Supports API development and integration, working with both internal and third-party RESTful services
- Collaborates with other developers, designers and external agencies to implement creative within CMS or application framework
- Collaborates with front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements using server-side logic
- Participates in code reviews, team meetings, and contributes to documentation of back-end processes and system design
- Assists in monitoring application performance and logs to troubleshoot issues in production environments
- Continuously learns and applies best practices in security, scalability, and code quality
- Performs other related duties as assigned to support team goals and development timelines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in design, computer science, or related program or significant related experience.
- Basic experience in back-end development using PHP, Python, or Node.js
- Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., MySQL or PostgreSQL), including writing and debugging SQL queries
- Exposure to back-end frameworks (e.g., Laravel, Express.js, Flask) and understanding of MVC principles
- Basic understanding of RESTful APIs and ability to consume or build simple APIs
- Familiarity with Git version control and basic terminal commands in a Linux environment
- Experience and understanding of web technologies as they relate to Higher Education is a plus
- Ability to manage multiple projects and complete them on time
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities as the need arises
- Strong team orientation and the ability to communicate well to those both within the industry and other stakeholders

The salary range of the grade for this position is $63,288 to $91,768 annually. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate. Offers are based on multiple factors permitted by law, including but not limited to: budgetary considerations, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, market considerations, tenure and standing with the university (applicable to current employees), and internal equity.
