Job Description Located in the heart of the Appalachian region, Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) serves the city of Bristol, Washington County, and the western portion of Smyth County, Virginia. VHCC is a beacon for educational opportunities, in view of Mt. Rogers and Whitetop Mountain, at exit 14 on Interstate 81 in historic Abingdon, Virginia. In addition to its traditional associate’s degree and certificate options, VHCC serves the businesses and industries in the service region through its Workforce Development Division, which provides short-term training programs, corporate training solutions, and skill-enhancement education to area residents. VHCC Workforce Development programs include Certified Nurse Aid, Commercial Truck Drivers License, Certified Billing & Coding Specialist, manufacturing and quality assurance certifications, tradesman renewal continuing education, and more. VHCC is one of 23 institutions in the Virginia Community College System and has served students from across the region, including northeast Tennessee, eastern Kentucky, and western North Carolina. http://www.vhcc.edu/. In its continued service to the region, VHCC is seeking a qualified applicant to serve as its next Coordinator for Workforce Development. The Coordinator serves as a liaison with area business and industry to identify educational and training needs, develop customized training solutions, and oversee credential and short-course programs. This position reports directly to the Dean of Workforce Development.
Position Responsibilities: Communicates with local business and industry representatives to identify educational and training opportunities. This includes presentations, workshops, and client meetings. Develops and coordinates the delivery of customized training courses and programs for area business and industry. Represents the college with chambers of commerce, economic development, jurisdictional organizations, educational partners, and civic groups. Coordinates the delivery of VHCC Workforce programs, including the promotion, scheduling, and administration of publicly funded (Fast Forward) programs. Sets up classroom or training environments as needed, including computers, textbooks, consumables, and other instructional technology Participates in the department’s operational administration, including reports, contracts, budget, and scheduling. Interprets and implements state and local policies relating to workforce development. Performs other relevant duties as assigned at the direction of the Dean.
Special Assignments | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications |
Minimum Qualifications (education, experience): Associate’s degree from an accredited institution. 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a business discipline, such as manufacturing, energy, financial services, health care, transportation, or technology.
Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, abilities): Demonstrated skill in product/service development, marketing, delivery, or customer service. Demonstrated interpersonal, management, and organizational skills, including proficiency in written and oral communication. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects. Demonstrated knowledge of financial management, such as budgeting, cost modeling, or accounting.
