Job Description
Southwest Virginia Community College (Southwest) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. Southwest also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography, and Administration of Justice.

The Workforce Training Coordinator is a hybrid faculty position which will be responsible for teaching credit and non-credit courses. This position will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering high-quality workforce training programs in Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and other skilled trades such as carpentry, welding, plumbing, OSHA safety, first aid, and heavy equipment operations. The ideal candidate will be qualified to teach the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and other areas or demonstrate a strong willingness to obtain necessary certifications and training for other skill-trade disciplines. Instruction will be conducted at the main campus, Southern Gap Training and Logistics Center, the Bluefield Center, or at other off campus locations in the service region of Southwest Virginia Community College. Travel may be required for training, outreach, or professional development. Classes may be offered during the day, evening, or weekend hours.

Key Responsibilities:Design, implement, and evaluate workforce training programs aligned with industry standards and community needs. Instruct or coordinate instruction for CDL and other skilled trades courses. Collaborate with local employers, industry partners, and community organizations to identify workforce needs and develop responsive training solutions. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including maintaining appropriate certifications and documentation. Monitor student progress and outcomes, providing support to ensure successful completion and job placement. Promote programs through outreach, marketing, and community engagement. Maintain equipment, supplies, and training materials for hands-on instruction. Pursue professional development and certifications in additional skilled areas as needed.

This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment in this role is contingent upon funding availability and the needs of the College. Position is not eligible for severance benefits under state policy.

Special Assignments  | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications  | High school diploma or equivalent. Significant commercial driving experience that combines over-the-road, local, and/or specialized hauling to provide students with a well-rounded understanding of industry practices. Valid Class A CDL license with endorsements CDL instructor Certification (or ability to obtain within 3-6 months) Experience in one or more skilled trades disciplines (e.g., carpentry, welding, plumbing, heavy equipment). OSHA and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 12 months) Willingness to obtain certifications in other areas to instruct, based on emerging workforce needs. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a wide range of populations. Commitment to student success and workforce development. Ability to lift and move equipment/materials as needed for training sessions. Ability to be self-motivated, to multi-task, and to create a student-oriented learning environment.

Additional Considerations  | Experience in curriculum development and instructional design. Familiarity with adult learning principles and workforce education. Associate degree or higher in a related field OSHA 10/30 certification
