ASU's Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions is seeking an Academic Success Advisor to join our advising and recruitment team at the Downtown Phoenix Campus. This position is intended for professionals invested in student-centric academic advising driven to support the college's mission to foster innovative solutions, community impact, and student success.
This individual will assist current and incoming students on their academic journeys, aiming to align their educational goals with career aspirations through a combination of in-person and virtual academic support services and strategic outreach.

Position Salary Range:

Essential Duties:

  • Provides academic advising by using collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, via Zoom, in writing, and by phone. This role will be in-person on the Downtown Phoenix Campus. 
  • Ensures ongoing student satisfaction with their program and degree progress, providing follow-up to confirm satisfaction with services. 
  • Proactively monitors student academic performance; addresses student concerns and questions. 
  • Manages escalations and reports results to stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with students to identify academic options including degrees, tutoring, counseling, career services, success coaching, study abroad programs, research, and internships. 
  • Recruitment & Retention: Participate in initiatives to attract and retain students, representing the college at events and/or design and deliver dynamic presentations that encourage student interest in degrees, admission and enrollment. May include local travel. 
  • New Student Initiatives: Contribute to teaching ASU 101 (if applicable), support academic advising at new student orientations and admitted student events when needed, including managing transfer credit evaluation 
  • Leadership opportunities: Recognize issues that affect the advising experience and provides suggestions in response. Assist with the coordination of academic success programs or advising policy development and implementation. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and methods of evidence-based academic advising strategies.
  • Eagerly builds knowledge of key university, or college/department/school resources.
  • Possesses a clear understanding of the following:
  • The college and department mission and values and how these lead our student-centric advising.
  • ASU's transfer credit resources
  • ASU's internal systems that play a role in recruitment and advising, including degree progress tools, Salesforce and Peoplesoft
  • Recognizes issues that affect the admission and advising experience and provides suggestions in response.
  • Maintains an openness to new and developing tools utilized across the University to aid in student success and excellent service.
  • Uses multiple systems at the same time (such as student record databases, customer relationship management systems, degree progress tools, appointment systems, analytics software/tools) to monitor student academic progress.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field
  • Experience in college-level academic advising, including both online and campus-based students at Arizona State University 
  • Experience in working effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities, especially during busier seasons.
  • Experience in communicating clearly, kindly, and concisely in writing while thinking ahead to anticipate future questions 
  • Experience working at ASU with Salesforce, Peoplesoft, and other student support tools.

Working Environment:

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
