Accounts Receivable Lead
Finance - Columbia, Maryland (Hybrid)
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Accounts Receivable Lead to oversee and optimize our accounts receivable processes, with a strong emphasis on student loan collections and interdepartmental collaboration. This role plays a critical part in ensuring timely cash flow, maintaining accurate receivables data, and supporting financial planning across the organization. The ideal candidate will bring a strong attention to detail, comfort working with institutional partners (including government entities), and the ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional workflows.

Responsibilities
Student & Institutional Receivables Oversight:
- Coordinate directly with university partners to manage and reconcile student loan invoicing and collections
- Serve as the primary liaison with Sallie Mae on student lending activity, disbursement issues, and collections follow-up
- Collaborate with state workforce development agencies to track, invoice, and collect funding on behalf of eligible students
- Maintain and update the Accounts Receivable Aging Report, including detailed notes on payment status, follow-up efforts, and expected timelines for collection
Strategic Finance Collaboration:
- Partner with the FP&A team to review and validate expected collections for cash flow forecasting
- Provide weekly insights and updates on A/R status, risks, and trends that may affect liquidity or revenue timing
Operational & Reporting Support:
- Support Revenue Accountants by providing accurate A/R data for inclusion in recurring enrollment reporting and revenue recognition processes
- Assist in month-end close processes by reconciling outstanding receivables and validating institutional balances
Experience/Skills Required
- 3–5 years of experience in accounts receivable, billing, collections, or a related accounting function
- Experience coordinating with third-party lenders and/or government agencies
- Strong understanding of AR aging, cash forecasting, and collections best practices
- Proficiency with Excel (VLOOKUP, PivotTables) and accounting/ERP systems
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
Preferred:
- Experience working in higher education, vocational training, or student finance
- Familiarity with Sallie Mae systems and processes
- Prior experience working with workforce development grants or state-funded training programs
- Knowledge of NetSuite, Salesforce, or similar platforms
