Duties and Responsibilities  | Serves as the Administrative Director for the Department of Cancer Biology.

ACADEMIC FISCAL ADMINISTRATIONDevelops/oversees all Department Budget operations. Monitors Accounting reports, performs financial analyses & fiscal planning. Serves as an Academic Fiscal Liaison to the University. Prepares ad-hoc Financial Reports. Authorizes Department expenditures including hiring authorizations, purchasing equipment & professional services, facility improvements & repairs, reimbursements & contractual agreements.

RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION
Oversees Departmental Research activities. Develops Research Grant Budgets & supervises internal approval process for all Research Grant Applications. Oversees fiscal administration of Awards & analyzes weekly Accounting Reports for all Grant accounts. Serves as a Liaison with granting Agencies, including the Medical School & Campus Research Administration.

FACULTY ADMINISTRATIONParticipates in Faculty recruitment & serves as a liaison to the Dean’s Office for Appointments. Recruits Faculty in accordance with regulatory guidelines & coordinates Immigration/Visas. Provides support for Faculty Candidates to relocate, establish start-up Accounting Units & assist in determining the amount & cost-sharing of Faculty salaries.

RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION AND GRANT WRITINGAdministers Research programs & submissions including identification of Grant opportunities & Research topics, interprets Grant Agency policies & procedures, corresponds with Grant Agencies, writes objectives, develops Budgets, monitors Budget expenses & balances, provides information for intramural Grant opportunities, prepares Grant-related Forms, serves as a Liaison with Research Services & Sponsor Program Accounting, provides assistance in developing Grants, & preparation of final submissions.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION Ensures all elements related to Student recruitment, orientation & training are met. Provides cost accounting related to curriculum development. Collaborates with Deans, Faculty Directors & Consultants on educational programs including Faculty effort reports, Faculty development, and CME.

DEPARTMENT ADMINISTRATION
Directs personnel operations for Faculty/Staff including initiation of recruitment process, interviews, hires, orientations & supervision of Staff. Oversees work productivity, individual & Team performance, annual Performance Evaluations, promotions, salary adjustments, disciplinary actions, terminations & Leave requests. Facilitates cohesive working relationship with all internal/external Contacts, evaluates work trends & staffing needs & adjusts staffing accordingly. Develops Position Descriptions & standards of performance for all Positions in the Department, maintains Departmental employee files & ensures confidentiality of employee information. Supports the Chair & Faculty in responding to internal & external Agencies/Boards including Medical School Accreditation & training programs. Provides Department resources & necessary documentation for Accreditation Boards. Serves as a mentor to staff & promote their professional development.

SPACE PLANNING
Ensures Department operations & Staff productivity are not hindered by space or equipment requirements. Manages space planning & renovation projects/prepare related Capital Budget requests.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTRemains current in trends/major advances/business strategies in Medical Schools & within a specific field. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience  | Bachelor’s Degree and 3 – 5 years of previous job-related experience required.
