Job Summary 
The Department of Plant & Soil Sciences in Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment is seeking an integral position of Business Officer to oversee the daily financial operations of our large unit. The department’s programs include all mission areas – teaching, research and extension – and in our broad areas of interest – crop science, environmental science, plant molecular biology and soil science. The department has over 40 faculty members and 60+ staff members, as well as post-doctoral scholars, graduate research assistants and visiting scholars.

The Business Officer role is key for ensuring accuracy of expenses, including payroll, state, federal, income, gift, endowment, and service center accounts. The position collaborates in the budget management and annual projection of the department in partnership with the Chair.

About the Role
The Business Officer ensures the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of all departmental financial activities, including payroll, state and federal funds, income, gift, endowment, and service center accounts. This role provides oversight of administrative operations and mentors staff responsible for grant management, travel, Procard, and human resource functions, ensuring efficient processes and adherence to institutional policies.
