All that’s missing is you! Fortunately, we have an open position for a 12-month, full-time Administrative and Professional Staff position as an Admissions Counselor reporting to the Director of Admissions in the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition to recruiting students and evaluating admissions applications, you’ll join a project team and take responsibility for a special project area that matches your skills and interests.

Where might your particular set of skills benefit our collective work? Project areas include virtual and on-campus event planning, communications and social media, mentoring student staff, Slate CRM management, and/or access initiatives. We wear many hats, which means there are many ways in which your skills might be a great match with our office.

This is a two year appointment with the expectation that your work performance will be reviewed after your first year and you be invited to remain for the second. This position takes a full year to learn given the cyclical nature of the job responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Enthusiastically and effectively promote the value of an Oberlin education to prospective students, parents, and school counselors. Assist with the implementation of procedures and programs for attracting, evaluating, and matriculating students. Participate in educational events, college fairs, information sessions, and recruitment activities as a representative of the college.
Essential Job Functions
• Present Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences and Conservatory of Music to groups of students, parents, secondary school counselors and alumni.
• Interview and evaluate prospective applicants.
• Correspond with students, parents, guidance counselors, agencies and other constituencies.
• Assist with the development and implementation of admissions events, programs, and activities, which may include, but are not limited to campus visit, access initiatives, alumni recruiting, and financial aid.
• Evaluate and present applications for admission to the Admissions Committee.
• Travel for approximately 6-8 weeks a year, representing Oberlin’s distinctive educational opportunities for talented and diverse students at high schools, college fairs, agencies and conferences.
Marginal Job Functions
• Assist with the work of other staff members within the admissions office.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Interest in working with prospective students, families, and secondary school counselors.
• Ability to relate to and communicate with students and families from diverse ethnic, racial, religious, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills including public speaking and presentations.
• Ability to work within a team, as well as with stakeholders across the college campus.
• Available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet Oberlin College insurability standards. Must be comfortable driving in unfamiliar areas with GPS assistance in a wide variety of traffic and weather conditions.
• Physical requirements include the ability to travel independently, work on a computer for up to eight hours a day, and lift up to 20 pounds.
• Available to start July 1, 2026
This is an in-person position that will require in-office work. No accommodations will be made for a permanent remote position.
Desired Qualifications
• Previous Admissions experience as a fellow, tour guide, student host, interviewer or volunteer.
• Knowledge of Oberlin College and Conservatory and/or liberal arts experience.
• Basic HTML and SQL

Within the range established for this position, salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
