Advanced Specialist, Content Developer (Math) Full Description

The Assessment Services team at GED® Testing Service (GEDTS) is seeking a highly qualified Senior Assessment Content Specialist who will contribute to the delivery of high-quality learning and assessment solutions for adult learners in mathematics. The successful candidate will work with a team of content specialists, psychometricians, project managers, and cross-functional teams on all aspects of GED® Mathematics test development, including innovative AI-powered tutorial development, item creation, test construction, forms review, and data analysis. This senior-level position requires demonstrated leadership in assessment projects and the ability to coordinate innovative educational technology initiatives across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment Design & Development

  • Lead and facilitate content development in mathematics across middle school, high school, and early college levels

  • Develop, review, and edit mathematics assessment tasks, including multiple-choice and technology-enhanced items

  • Ensure appropriate high school end-of-course rigor and complexity in mathematical items

  • Lead activities for item development, forms development, and special mathematics assessment projects

Quality Assurance & Validation

  • Facilitate and provide mathematics assessment expertise at virtual subject matter expert committee meetings (e.g., content review, fairness review, data review, etc.)

  • Ensure assessments align with relevant mathematics standards and meet high-quality content and statistical specifications

  • Work with psychometricians to analyze data and ensure test fairness, reliability, and validity

Project Management & Leadership

  • Coordinate multiple assessment development activities and adapt to changing priorities

  • Manage timelines, resources, and deliverables for complex mathematics assessment projects

  • Lead, manage, and develop item writer training programs and assist in recruiting external mathematics content developers

AI Integration & Innovation

  • Coordinate with cross-organizational teams to design and develop innovative AI-powered mathematics tutorials that support learners

  • Lead content development for initiatives integrating artificial intelligence into adaptive learning systems for personalized mathematics instruction

  • Collaborate with product and technology teams to implement AI-driven assessment and tutoring solutions

Collaboration & Strategic Leadership

  • Work closely with the Test Development Manager, Senior Director of Assessment Services, other subject area content leads, psychometricians, and Pearson/GEDTS groups

  • Represent GEDTS at conferences and professional mathematics education events

  • Support cross-content GED® initiatives and collaborate with existing mathematics teams

  • Conduct program and industry-related research in mathematics assessment and AI applications

  • Coordinate with technology and product teams to implement innovative mathematics learning solutions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related field

  • 5+ years of mathematics teaching experience at middle school, high school, or early college level

  • 3+ years experience in mathematics assessment development, including high-stakes assessment programs

  • Project management experience, including leading assessment development projects

  • Experience with artificial intelligence applications in education, particularly in mathematics tutoring or adaptive learning systems

  • Experience performing all phases of assessment development including item writing, editing, data review, test building, and providing feedback for continual improvement

  • Proven ability to lead teams and coordinate cross-functional initiatives

  • Experience writing, reviewing, and editing mathematics items aligned to high school equivalency learning standards

  • Strong knowledge of assessment best practices, universal design, and accessibility principles

  • Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Strong computer skills and broad knowledge of assessment technology tools and AI platforms

  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, providing innovative solutions to complex problems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in mathematics education, Educational Technology, or related field

  • Experience leading AI or educational technology implementation projects

  • Background in creating content for adaptive learning systems or intelligent tutoring systems

  • Experience with machine learning applications in educational assessment

  • Previous experience in adult education or GED preparation programs

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York State, New York City, Vermont, Washington State, and Washington DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

The minimum full-time salary range is between $70,000 to $100,000.
