Application Engineer Full Description

Job Description
The Application Engineer will be responsible for administering enterprise level reporting and analytics solutions in MicroStrategy. This position will be the primary administrator of MicroStrategy and a primary architect of projects. They will be responsible for administering the server that MicroStrategy is installed on. Additionally, this position will be a key contributor in the architecture and support for additional reporting solutions such as Tableau, SAS, and PowerBI. They will work with and support business users while also working with specialized technology engineers in order to solve complicated problems. 

Telecommuting is permitted, the position is 100% remote. Occasional travel to the Blacksburg, VA campus (typically once a month) will be required for in-person meetings.

Required Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field. 
● 5 years of experience in the following administrative tasks: configuring MicroStrategy including installing and upgrading MicroStrategy; Windows/Linux Operating System administration including upgrades, permissions, configuration, hardware setup, logging and monitoring; relational databases; building analytics solutions in an enterprise environment using CICD pipelines and separation of duties; advanced knowledge in tomcat, SAML, 2FA, firewalls and proxy servers for the purpose of hosting and basic web development experience. 
● Excellent at working effectively in a team environment; Strong communication and interpersonal skills with both technical and business users. Strong organization skills and able to manage oneself; working in an environment committed to best practices with ability to define operational processes, deployment checklists, documentation and more. 
● 3 years of experience in the following: developing complex reports, metrics and OLAP cubes within MicroStrategy; advanced scripting knowledge in MicroStrategy command manager, Python, PowerShell, and an object oriented language like Java; extensive experience working with warehouse concepts and highly proficiency at SQL; 
● 2 years of experience using cloud services, specifically AWS.
