Job Description:
The Assistant Director, Career Management, provides operational leadership and supervision for the Undergraduate and Specialized Master's coaching team within the W. P. Carey School of Business Career Services Center. Reporting to the Director of Career Management, this role oversees student-facing coaching services, programming execution, and operational coordination for assigned student populations. The Associate Director supervises coaching staff and operational support personnel who deliver scalable, high-quality, market-aligned career programming and coaching experiences.
This role works collaboratively with the Associate Directors of International Initiatives and Curriculum, along with the Employer Engagement team, and university stakeholders to support the implementation of career initiatives and student success. While the Assistant Director of Career Management serves as the operational lead for coaching execution and service delivery, the role partners closely with International Initiatives leadership to ensure programming and coaching strategies effectively support both domestic and international student populations.
Position Salary Range:
- $72,000-$76,7000 annually; to commensurate with education and experience.
Essential Duties:
People Management (40%)
- Provide oversight, direction, and leadership for the Program Manager and assigned coaching team's day-to-day work to ensure projects, goals, and performance objectives are met.
- Monitor and track team capacity, workload distribution, and resource allocation to support operational effectiveness and the quality of student services.
- Establish operational priorities and service-delivery expectations for the assigned coaching team, including clear expectations for the new-employee onboarding plan, ongoing checkpoints, and success metrics.
- Lead the hiring, training, and evaluation of career coaches with the W. P. Carey Career Services leadership team to ensure new employees understand the strategic vision of the Career Services Center and how their role operates as part of that strategy.
- Guide coaches in developing, implementing, and evaluating effective programs that support students in career development activities and position them for success post-graduation.
- Develop staff through identified training in career coaching strategies, including understanding market needs and embedding these in student programming.
- Support staff prioritization and decision-making within a collaborative matrixed environment.
- Support operational consistency across coaching services, student communication, and frontline workflows.
- Develop staff capabilities related to market-informed programming, scalable student engagement, and coaching practices.
Strategic Initiatives (25%)
- Oversee operational execution of career programming aligned with departmental priorities and student population needs, ensuring deliverables meet department standards and timelines.
- Manage and oversee career coaches' content creation and review processes to ensure all content aligns with key career management strategies and messaging, and reflects our value as talent subject-matter experts.
- Collaborate with Curriculum leadership and coaching teams to support implementation of career education initiatives and student-facing content.
- Support delivery of workshops, career courses, employer-related programming, and student engagement initiatives
- In conjunction with the Executive Director and the Director of Career Management, oversee the execution of the assigned strategic plan and coaching initiatives
- Develop and track an annual budget, including purchase allocations, approvals, and reconciliation.
- Participate in leadership planning, operational coordination meetings, and departmental initiatives as needed.
Stakeholder Engagement (15%)
- Work collaboratively across W. P. Carey with key academic contacts, employer engagement, and program managers to ensure team alignment with the goals of other areas accountable for this population's experience.
- Work collaboratively with the Associate Director of International Initiatives to support coordinated service delivery for domestic and international student populations.
- Supervise, as an operational liaison, the coaching team and the interactions with shared-service functions, supporting communication and coordination related to cross-functional programming and student-facing initiatives.
- Direct career coaches to coordinate communication and collaboration with appropriate stakeholders to ensure office services meet stakeholder needs.
- Represent the University and W. P. Carey Career Management on committees and professional organizations as assigned.
Data Analysis & Reporting (15%)
- Monitor and regularly report on activity, outcomes, and fluctuations in student engagement trends across mandatory, self-directed, and on-demand touchpoints, as directed by the Director of Career Management.
- Partner in the collection and preparation of data and complex reports for employers and other stakeholders as needed.
- Leverage data to drive decision-making and inform shared narratives around student outcomes and employee performance to internal and external stakeholders
- Oversee engagement and utilization metrics by monitoring reports to ensure student needs are met through efficient coach utilization.
- Understand CSEA and NACE standards across all populations and adhere to processes and structures by which all team members use this data to inform programming and strengthen stakeholder relationships.
Market Informed (5%)
- Enhance professional practice through employer meetings and research to understand market needs and institutional performance within the broader landscape.
- Stay current on business news, employment trends, and considerations for the industries that hire ASU talent, including continued knowledge of competitor and peer schools to determine best practices.
- Develop a deep understanding of the degree programs offered at W. P. Carey and the relevant skill sets employers seek in degree holders from those programs.
Desired Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience leading and managing individuals for performance
- Experience with career program design, development & delivery
- Experience in project management from ideation to implementation, including discovery and goal setting, roadmaps, timelines, and checkpoints
- An appreciation and understanding of the role of building interpersonal business relationships when working across complex organizations to implement projects and drive collaboration
- Capabilities in building business processes to drive service consistency, draw insights for decision-making, and/or plan for new service delivery are highly desired.
- Evidence of a Master's degree in (business/counseling/education) or related field
- Experience in higher education an asset
- Experience in career coaching, counseling, or human development is an asset.
- Knowledge of administration and management principles, practices, and techniques.
- Familiarity with NACE and CSEA standards
- Some knowledge of basic budgetary procedures and techniques
- Experience delivering effective presentations
- Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, data query, PowerPoint)
Working Environment:
- Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of computer, keyboard, and computer mouse.
- May include exposure to external environment/climate conditions including walking on uneven surfaces, climbing and high temperatures.
