I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs (ESIA) is one of the world’s leading schools of international affairs and one of the largest schools of international affairs in the United States. Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., its mission is to educate the next generation of international leaders, conduct research that advances understanding of important global issues and engage the policy community in the United States and around the world.

The Elliott School seeks a dynamic individual to serve as Assistant Director, Graduate Admissions. The Assistant Director, Graduate Admissions executes a comprehensive recruiting strategy in our local markets, including virtual recruitment activities. This position directly impacts targeted ESIA enrollment projections each semester. This position typically represents the university both on campus and off campus in order to build relationships and analyze data to manage a recruitment territory, and evaluate admissions applications. The core responsibilities of this role are typically to execute strategic recruitment initiatives, to analyze recruitment data, to determine eligibility and to analyze academic credentials. Reporting to the Executive Director of Graduate Admissions, the Assistant Director may also plan, execute, and represent the university both on campus and off campus at events via information sessions, interviews, college fairs, open houses and department events, and may coordinate special programs/projects in support of admissions efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Executes a comprehensive, data driven recruitment strategy in local markets. Ensures all ESIA on-campus and off-campus recruitment events are developed and marketed through Slate CRM. Oversees all recruitment event communications.
  • Serves as a point of contact within the DMV area for recruiting; attends recruitment fairs, hosts coffee chats, and does outreach to area employers.
  • Performs initial reviews of applications for domestic and international applicants, including review of international credentials.
  • Supports International Partnerships work, including drafting MOU’s and promoting exchange programs.
  • Provides targeted and meaningful logistic support to special populations in the admissions process, such as international students, including processing visa documents.
  • Coordinates Elliott School-hosted recruitment events including our annual Fall Open Houses, as well as other recruitment events on campus and locally.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

This is a hybrid position with three days in-person and two days remote. Depending on business needs, the schedule may vary to include evenings, weekends, or holidays. Some travel may be required.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Experience in higher education administration, preferably in admissions.
  • Skilled at reviewing/evaluating applicant credentials at the graduate level.
  • Experience in a school of international affairs, and knowledge of international student credentials and visa requirements preferred.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule to include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Knowledge of student systems, especially Slate or Banner
  • Some experience with graphic/web design.
Hiring Range $45,925.13 - $63,191.56
