General Information:
The Assistant Director of Global Learning and Partnerships (GLP) plays a key role in advancing JMU’s global engagement efforts. As part of the Center for Global Engagement team, this position supports institutional partnerships, exchange programs, and global academic initiatives that impact students, faculty, and partners across campus and around the world. The Assistant Director manages key programs such as Peace Corps Prep, facilitates short-term exchange visits, and maintains agreements with international partners. This position is critical to sustaining JMU’s global presence and fostering inclusive, high-impact learning experiences that prepare students for meaningful engagement in a global society.
The mission of the Center for Global Engagement (CGE) is to broaden worldviews and promote global understanding for the JMU community by cultivating, facilitating, and supporting global engagement at home and abroad. Our shared passions build a strong sense of an inclusive community and belonging, as well as pride in the work we do.
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Support strategies in developing global learning and partnerships for JMU
● Maintain the organized and up-to-date files such as institutional agreements, legal documents, and other files relating to CGE, including MOUs and MOAs between JMU and overseas universities and organizations
● Coordinate with various JMU units and partner universities on developing and facilitating exchange student programs
● Support the Peace Corps Prep Program, International Network of Universities (INU), and other GLP programs
● Manage and support incoming short-term student exchange programs
● Plan, manage, coordinate, promote, and evaluate international partner visits
● Prepare reports and data on global partnerships
● Maintain and update department documentation of processes, policies, and procedures to support training, efficiency, and continuity
● Create, propose, and manage GLP budgets
● Other duties as assigned to support the work of the unit
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Knowledge of the field of international education, global learning, and global partnerships
• Experience in global learning and partnership programs
• Experience in developing global partnerships with universities around the world
• Experience in MOUs and MOAs
• Intercultural communication skills and ability to work with diverse communities and with individuals from a wide range of cultures
Preferred:
• Master’s degree
• Experience in international exchange programs
• Experience in working with faculty members in international programs
