Compensation for this position is expected to be $71,385.60, in alignment with what California Baptist University (CBU) reasonably anticipates paying for this role. The final rate may vary depending on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and prevailing market conditions. Position Summary Information
Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Success Coaching supports student retention and academic progress by leading and training a team of Student Success Coaches and maintaining a small student caseload. Reporting to the Director and Associate Director, this role ensures consistent, high-quality advising, oversees initiatives in curriculum integration, retention, and assessment, and contributes to programs serving special student populations. The position emphasizes student-centered support, collaborative leadership, and data-driven decision-making in a dynamic environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Supervise, mentor, train and evaluate SSC I and SSC II performance in extending services to online and campus students in undergraduate and graduate programs.
2. Monitor direct reports’ abilities to meet retention goals including percentage of active student case load that is retained: (a) from first to second term, (b) first academic year, and © graduation.
3. Assess academic statuses, placements, and progress, consistent with academic policies and degree requirements. Exercise professional judgement in updating and maintaining records accordingly.
4. Advise students on degree requirements, and academic policies and procedures through various modes of contact, and in adherence to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
5. Prepare degree guides, academic plans, and graduation checks, and various academic requests consistent with degree requirements and academic policies and procedures.
6. Direct and coordinate with staff responsible for development, maintenance, and publication of internal and external resources in support of accurate and consistent service delivery.
7. Direct and coordinate with staff responsible with planning and execution of University, College, School and department-sponsored events.
8. Develop and maintain advising forms and resources.
9. Disseminate information on degree requirements, policies, procedures, use of technologies, advising best practices and findings of assessment, through training, presentations, catalog review, and maintenance of Success Coach information database.
10. Maintain communication with Deans, Chairs, and various academic and student support directors. Serve on ad hoc or standing committees assigned.
11. In coordination with Director, Associate Director, and other Assistant Directors, oversee Student Success Coach support for major event planning, execution and assessment.
12. Recruit, train, schedule and oversee student workers and interns.
13. Model a collaborative environment within the Office and across the University.
14. Assist with special projects as requested by the University.
15. Design and implement retention-focused initiatives that use data and predictive indicators to proactively identify and support at-risk students, ensuring timely interventions and personalized coaching that promote academic persistence and degree completion.
16. Foster a sense of belonging among diverse student populations by leading programs, outreach efforts, and collaborative partnerships that create inclusive, supportive environments where students feel connected to the university community and empowered to engage in their academic journey.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Alongside the Director and Associate Director, this position provides instruction to Student Success Coaches on complex business processes, and event preparation and service delivery. Serves in a mentoring role to newer Success Coaches. This position could be responsible for assigning work and/or giving direction to part-time Student workers, in order to complete office work assignments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University’s policies and applicable laws procedures. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; and requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard or other office equipment. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment, with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
