Description  | Reporting to the Director of Communications at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, the Assistant Manager or Manager of Public Relations will be responsible for promoting Zucker School of Medicine news and events through strong media relations and strategic communications while maintaining a consistent public brand and voice. The successful candidate will craft compelling press releases and media pitches, manage media inquiries, and cultivate relationships with journalists across various media outlets. Additionally, they will collaborate with the director in developing and executing comprehensive Public Relations (PR)/communication plans aligned with the Zucker School of Medicine’s goals and priorities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Develops and executes comprehensive PR communication plans aligned with the Zucker School of Medicine’s goals and priorities. Identifies key audiences and tailors messaging to resonate effectively with each group. Crafts compelling press releases, media pitches, and other communication materials to promote the school’s news and events through earned and owned media. Supports the planning and execution of PR-related events including milestone events, press conferences and media briefings. Stays abreast of current events and media trends. Builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and community leaders. Collaborates with a wide range of senior administration, academic, and planning/event departments across Hofstra University, Zucker School of Medicine, and Northwell Health. Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets. Cultivates and maintains a media list and a list of subject-matter experts for the medical school and manages media inquiries and facilitates interviews. Assists with tracking and analyzing media coverage, including quantitative metrics (number of placements, reach and impressions) and qualitative analysis (tone and message penetration). Assists in keeping leadership informed about PR activities and results through concise and insightful reports. Works with external vendors which may include PR agencies, photographers, videographers, or other service providers. Trains faculty, staff, and administrators on media relations best practices. Develops content for other channels which may include newsletters, brochures, annual reports, speeches, presentations, or other internal and external communications materials. Assists in developing and implementing crisis communication strategies. Ensures brand consistency and messaging alignment across all communication platforms. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field required. A minimum of five years of related experience with a proven track record in public relations, preferably within a higher education/healthcare setting. Possesses a strong sense of news and an ability to identify compelling stories with broad appeal, recognizing opportunities to highlight the Zucker School of Medicine’s achievements and impact. Possess excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills with strong attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of PR communications strategies, principles and best practices. Crisis communication management experience. Flexibility and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in digital communication and content management tools such as Constant Contact, WordPress, Canva, and Meltwater. This role may require weekend hours, in addition to late evenings and early mornings, as well as occasional travel.
Preferred Qualifications  | Photography and photo editing skills are a plus.

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
