Job Description  | The Associate Director, Marketing and Communications plays a key role in advancing the Syracuse University College of Law’s strategic priorities through thoughtful, data-informed content planning and execution. This position is responsible for developing/maintaining the COL’s website content, ensuring updates align with institutional messaging and priorities, and collaborating with SU’s Division of Marketing to follow brand standards, governance, and digital strategy. In partnership with the Dir. of Strategic Marketing and Communications, the Assoc Director leads digital storytelling initiatives that showcase students, alumni, faculty, and the COL’s impact, coordinating with SU’s Division of Marketing editorial and content teams to amplify stories across channels.

In addition to content strategy, this role manages departmental administration and operations, including budget tracking, purchase order processing, vendor coordination, contract management, and digital asset organization. The Assoc Director also supports special projects by interfacing with photographers, videographers, and enrollment marketing partners to advance enrollment goals and institutional initiatives. Further responsibilities include monitoring and reporting on digital performance metrics, overseeing digital signage, managing events calendar, and ensuring consistent, engaging communication across platforms.

This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Education and Experience  | Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field. 5-7 years of relevant experience in marketing operations, project management, or communications. Experience in higher education or complex organizational environments is preferred.

Skills and Knowledge  | Expertise in content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, SharePoint) and email marketing platforms (HTML emails). Strong organizational and project management skills. Experience with social media management tools. Experience with Adobe Suite Programs (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator). Strong writing, interpersonal, and communication skills. Budget management and vendor coordination experience. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with project tracking systems and ticketing workflows. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other productivity tools. Knowledge of AP Style.

Responsibilities  | Website Management: Developing and maintaining website content, ensuring timely updates, and aligning copy with institutional messaging and priorities. Works with/collaborates with the division of marketing, including digital, social, and content strategy, follows established university brand standards, governance, and approach. Digital Storytelling and Publishing Strategy: In collaboration with the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications, this role will focus on highlighting current students and alumni on our website and social media platforms, ensuring alignment with the college’s strategic goals and brand objectives. Work with our University’s editorial calendar, coordinates content with marketing content strategy and developing content consistent with University brand approach, creates and share stories about the accomplishments of faculty, students, and alumni worldwide in coordination with Syracuse University’s Marketing Content and Digital Teams. Work with Syracuse University’s editorial calendar. Coordinate content with marketing content strategy and develop content consistent with Syracuse University brand approach.
Department Administration and Operations: Track and manage the department’s budget, process Purchase Orders (PO), source quotes from third party vendors, and work closely with budget and finance teams and vendors to coordinate contracts, SOWs, payments etc. Lead digital asset organization and file management for the department. Coordinate departmental meetings and collaborations with university stakeholders, while also partnering with Syracuse University’s Division of Marketing to support university-wide goals.

Special Project Support:Interface with outside vendors (photographers, videographers, etc.) in support of special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Director. This also includes coordination with our Enrollment Marketing partner in support of Syracuse Law’s enrollment marketing strategies and goals.

Reporting:Monitor and report on digital performance metrics, using analytics to assess content effectiveness and support departmental key performance indicators (KPIs).
