Job Description
The Associate Director of Marketing and Communications provides leadership and operational management for the Marketing and Communications, Guest Services, and Off-Campus Living functional areas as a member of the senior leadership team for both Housing Administrative Services (HAS), and Housing and Residential Life (HRL). The Associate Director is responsible for the creation and strategic oversight of a professional, focused, and intentional brand for HRL, ensuring alignment with the TXST University brand. The Associate Director will supervise the marketing team to design and implement marketing strategies in line with the university’s overall brand strategy and highlight information and engagement throughout HRL while supporting the advancement of Off‑Campus Living outreach efforts. The Associate Director will also supervise the guest services team to implement a housing tour program, including daily campus tours and Bobcat Days, New Student Orientation, housing tours, and special events. The Associate Director will be a critical team member partnering with the Director for Housing Administrative Services and the other unit Associate Director as HAS leadership to implement departmental goals and expand housing’s overall operation. The Associate Director of Housing Administrative Services will report to the Director of Housing Administrative Services.
Job Duties
Supervision
  • Provide direct supervision to 4 full-time staff members within marketing, guest services, off‑campus living, and administrative assistant.
  • Provide indirect supervision and functional leadership to 15+ Housing Ambassadors, 5 marketing and photography student employees, and 1 Graduate Assistant for Off-Campus Living.
  • Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and professional development opportunities for staff, fostering accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
Marketing & Communications
  • Develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive annual communications and marketing strategy for Housing and Residential Life.
  • Oversee departmental websites, electronic communication tools, and social media platforms supporting the department through platforms such as Hootsuite, Zendesk, Monday.com, Airtable, StarRez, and College Pads.
  • Serve as a member of the departmental move-in team tasked with collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive marketing and brand strategy within the Texas State Move-in process.
  • Utilize analytics, reporting, and assessment data to evaluate the effectiveness of communications and to inform continuous improvement efforts.
  • Manage a budget for marketing and off-campus living involving vendor management, purchasing, and expense tracking to support departmental priorities and outcomes.
  • Ensure all communications initiatives align with Texas State branding, enrollment priorities, and student success goals across the full housing life cycle.
Guest Services and Off-Campus Living
  • Oversee Housing and Residential Life tour program, including daily tours and special events.
  • Indirectly manage desk operations and guest interactions at the main Housing and Residential Life reception desk to provide clear, timely, and student success focused messaging.
  • Assist in the management of annual housing fairs, workshops, and information sessions for students.
  • Collaborate with the Residential Experience team and other campus partners to offer specialized programming to enhance students’ readiness to transition into living off-campus successfully
Unit Leadership
  • Serve as a member of the departmental senior leadership team in making decisions to impact the full on-campus experience.
  • Support the departmental leadership team in coordinating and supporting special events for the department and Division of Student Success.
  • Prepare in advance of and actively participate in emergency responses during major events to ensure timely and accurate communication and coordination between the various units and the university.
  • Assist in developing, reviewing and implementing policies and procedures for Housing Administrative Services and the Department.
  • Collaborate with other departmental leadership and key stakeholders to provide insight into occupancy, communication, and facility information to students and parents in a timely manner.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
