Associate Director of Digital Content Strategy Full Description

About Us: 
The Associate Director of Digital Content Strategy oversees and implements editorial intiatives, content planning, content governance, and high-quality written content for Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s public website and intranet. Reporting to the Director of Web Strategy and Development, this role partners with senior leaders, faculty, departments, administrative offices, and communications colleagues to assess content needs, provides recommendations and supports the development of web content that advances institutional priorities, user needs, brand standards, accessibility, and search performance. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Oversee and facilitate the implementation of editorial content strategy for Einstein’s public website and intranet, ensuring content is accurate, user-centered, accessible, findable, on-brand, and aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Partner with senior administrators, faculty, researchers, departments, and offices; independently assess content needs, recommend approaches, and guide stakeholders.
  • Write, edit, restructure, and optimize content for a variety of audiences, including prospective and current students, faculty, researchers, postdoctoral fellows, staff, alumni, donors, and external partners.
  • Translate complex academic, scientific, medical, administrative, and institutional information into clear, concise, accurate, and audience-appropriate web content.
  • Apply and support the development of editorial and production standards, including voice and tone, page structure, metadata, naming conventions, accessibility, and SEO.
  • Lead and implement digital content workflows from intake through publication, including prioritization, content creation, CMS production, quality assurance, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Partner with web team colleagues to plan, structure, edit, and publish content within content management system, including Drupal for the public website.
  • Use project management and ticketing tools, including JIRA or similar systems, to track content work, communicate status, and manage deadlines and workflows.
  • Collaborate on information architecture, navigation, page planning, content modeling, and content migration decisions for new and existing web sections.
  • Conduct regular content audits and use analytics and performance data to inform content updates and improvements incorporating SEO principles, accessibility standards, user experience best practices, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Manage freelance content contributors as needed.
  • Stay current on digital content strategy, higher education web trends, content governance, accessibility, SEO, enterprise CMS practices, and web editorial best practices.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, marketing, digital media, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven or more years of experience in digital content strategy, web editorial, communications, content design, marketing communications, or related work.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with senior stakeholders and subject-matter experts to develop clear, accurate, audience-centered content.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education, academic medicine, healthcare, research, science communications, or a complex nonprofit or institutional environment.
  • Experience with Drupal or another enterprise content management system.
 
Skills and Competencies
  • Excellent editorial judgment and communications skills; ability to produce clear, accurate, polished, audience-centered web content.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to uphold editorial, style, quality, and production standards.
  • Experience working within a content management system and understanding of content strategy, page structure, metadata, accessibility, SEO, and CMS components.
  • Proficiency with project management, ticketing, or workflow tools such as JIRA, Asana, Trello, Smartsheet, Monday.com, or similar systems.
  • Excellent time management, decision-making, and prioritization skills.
  • Highly collaborative, collegial, service-oriented working style.
  • Confidence working with senior leaders, researchers, and administrators 
  • Ability to diplomatically balance stakeholder requests with user needs, institutional priorities, brand standards, accessibility, web standards, and available resources.
  • Strong understanding of digital content strategy, web writing, information architecture, UX principles, SEO, accessibility, metadata, content governance, and CMS workflows.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics, Looker Studio / Data Studio, or similar analytics, SEO, accessibility, or web quality assurance tools.
  • Experience managing freelance writers, editors, content producers, or distributed content contributors.

Albert Einstein College of Medicine considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. Minimum Salary Range: USD $123,500.00/Yr. Maximum Salary Range: USD $130,000.00/Yr.
