Cell Press is a premium brand portfolio of scientific journals. We have successfully published journals for more than 5 decades and are still expanding into new disciplines. We are looking for a dynamic individual with editorial and publishing expertise to join our editorial team at Developmental Cell, a well-established Cell Press journal covering broad biology-relevant research. Developmental Cell is a highly regarded journal in cell and developmental biology since its inception in 2001, that successfully expanded into plant, cancer biology, and immunology fields in recent years.
About the Role
As Scientific Editor of Developmental Cell, you will work with the Editor-in-Chief to support the journal’s scientific scope and editorial direction. You will be responsible for managing the peer review process, making editorial decisions, and working closely with authors to ensure the publication of impactful and high-quality research. This role offers an exciting opportunity to stay at the forefront of scientific advancements and to contribute to the dissemination of cutting-edge research. You will be expected to travel to attend conferences, seminars, and scientific meetings and to build a broad network of domestic and international contacts. As editor, you will foster partnerships with colleagues of the production, marketing, operations, press and advertising teams, as well as with other editorial teams at Cell Press, and to contribute to the overall publishing strategy of Cell Press.
This is a full-time editorial position and an exciting opportunity to be part of a recognized journal which is part of the vibrant and growing Cell Press journal portfolio.
Preference will be given to candidates located near one of the main Cell Press office locations in the US (Cambridge, MA), UK (London, Oxford), The Netherlands (Amsterdam), and China (Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen).

Responsibilities
- Evaluating submissions rigorously against the journals’ requirements.
- Support a culture of collaboration, creativity, and high standards. Your contribution will help a great team to reach new heights in serving the community.
- Building global networks and commissioning exciting papers within the scope of the journal (including insightful front matter articles).
- Working closely with the Cell Press editorial family, the production and operation team, as well as the business development and marketing team to support cross-journal initiatives and share best practices. Together, we serve the community better.
- Representing Developmental Cell and Cell Press at conferences and public forums, showcasing the journal’s impact and engaging with the broader scientific community. Your passion will inspire researchers and enable us to serve their needs.
- Traveling to participate in domestic & international conferences and visiting research institutes to engage with researchers.
- Collaborating with editorial teams of relevant Cell Press journals.
Requirements
- A Ph.D. in cancer biology, immunology, or cell biology. Having existing and deep networks in the research community is preferred.
- Have a comprehensive understanding of the current and emerging trends in life science research, with a knack for innovative thinking.
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with a genuine passion for engaging with the scientific community.
- Possess critical thinking skills and the willingness to learn and absorb new areas of research.
- Strong teamwork skills, proactive attitude and a collaborative problem-solving mindset.
- Have excellent time management and organizational skills.
