Job Summary
This position develops, curates, and edits strategic marketing and communications copy for advertising, video scripts, websites, fundraising materials, events, and publications that build brand understanding and advance philanthropic, advocacy, and other institutional priorities. The position applies advanced skills and discernment in marketing and communications best practices and institutional guidelines to create persuasive, brand-aligned content that drives long-term engagement across multiple audiences. The position partners across the department, division, and campus, as well as with external vendors, to produce cohesive, on-brand communications and identify storytelling opportunities that align with university and divisional strategy. During emergency events, the position fulfills appropriate communications-related operations in coordination with other staff positions in the department, including necessary on-site responsibilities.

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. The hiring range for this position is $5,877 (Step #1) to $6,750 (Step #8) per month, commensurate with the candidate’s education, experience, skills, and training. The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,877 (Step #1) to $8,561 (Step #20) per month.

To be eligible for full benefits, employees must be appointed at least half-time (.50 FTE) with an appointment lasting more than six months and one day. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expert writing and storytelling skills, with ample experience adapting content for print, web, email, and social media platforms while maintaining tone, voice, and message consistency. Expert proofreading and editing skills. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with campus leadership, colleagues, stakeholders, and vendors. Excellent organizational and project management skills to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight deadlines. Familiarity with marketing and content strategy techniques, including the use of digital analytics and audience insights. Understanding of university or nonprofit communication objectives, with the ability to translate strategic goals into effective donor engagement and philanthropy messaging. Strong consultative and persuasive communication skills, with the ability to build productive relationships and represent the division professionally.
Ability to handle confidential donor and university information with discretion, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and professionalism in all written communications. University marketing and communications background preferred. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community and to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies.
Education and Experience
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, such as writing marketing and/or persuasive/promotional brand copy, including philanthropic writing and storytelling, required. May be required to work on-site during emergency events and support communications-related operations outside of normal working conditions, as assigned.
