Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | Under minimal supervision, serves as the business manager for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Responsible for supervising and coordinating fiscal and management activities, which include budgeting, research grant management, personnel, procurement, inventory and property management of departmental assets. These services are provided for more than 200 faculty, staff and graduate students with financial resources from State and external research funds in excess of $19 million annually.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience | Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications | Supervisory experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities | Considerable knowledge of business administration procedures including personnel, fiscal operations, and organizational management. The ability to develop and plan long-term goals and objectives. Proficient in personal computer operation, spreadsheet applications, database applications, University mainframe software, word processing software, and University web-based applications (IMS, Visual DBase, Excel, Microsoft Word, various web-based applications). Ability to communicate effectively with diverse University personnel faculty, staff, students, and public. Ability to maintain a good relationship with faculty, staff, students, and administrators from other units. Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of subordinate personnel. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Job Duty | In coordination with the Chair of the CAS Stockroom Faculty Advisory Board, supervises the management of Arts & Sciences Stockroom operations. This includes procurement of supplies, equipment and services through purchase requisitions, direct expenditure vouchers, blanket orders and credit card purchases.

Percentage of Time | 10Job Duty | Serves as the departmental liaison advising and coordinating between the College’s Auxiliary Manager, Facilities Management and the Departmental Facilities Coordinator and Undergraduate Lab Coordinator to ensure that request for renovation services are implemented. Renovations include the provision of auxiliary services such as building renovation projects, general physical plant and equipment maintenance requirements.

Percentage of Time | 10Job Duty | Supervises and coordinates research grant accounting with total funding in excess of $19 million. Assists faculty to manage research grants. Provides assistance as needed for special grant requests. Prepares and reviews time & effort reports, and other federal reports as required. Provides assistance to the faculty and staff to ensure compliance with federal, state, university, and department policies and procedures.

Oversees the processing of hires, rehires, terminations or changes to a current appointments for department personnel. Monitors these actions to ensure correct fund distribution. Provides assistance to the Department to ensure compliance with federal, state, university, and department policies and procedures.

Prepares budget requests, monitors compliance and rate of expenditures on approved appropriated funds to ensure compliance with federal, state, university, and department policies and procedures. The current budgetary level for the department is approximately 10 million dollars.
