Posting Summary
Lead the Department of Medicine’s (DOM) academic finance and business operations by serving as strategic advisor to the Chair. Provide complex financial, operational, and administrative management to guide the DOM’s clinical, research, academic, and community service missions. Provide leadership in preparing, managing and forecasting the department’s overall substantial complex budget comprised of general funds, internal research funds, clinical trial funds, gift and endowment funds. Collaborate directly with the University of Vermont Health Network (UVMHN) Medical Group Vice Presidents and Financial Specialists, and DOM Division Chiefs to ensure operational compliance and financial precision throughout the UVM and UVMMC fiscal years. Oversee the DOM’s human resources activities to ensure faculty and staff recruitment/retention compliance with established university guidelines and collective bargaining agreements, and mediate complex scenarios for dually employed faculty. Provide operational oversight and strategic direction to the DOM’s Pre-Award and Post-Award Offices, and facilitate partnerships with the UVM Health Network, UVM Sponsored Projects Administration, UVM Research Protections Office, and others participating in research with DOM faculty. Report to the Chair of Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor’s degree in related area and five to seven years of demonstrated leadership/management, financial, technical, and operational experience required. Effective interpersonal, communication, organizational, problem-solving and computer skills are required.
Desirable Qualifications
Prior experience in university or academic medical center in research administration and in-depth knowledge of federal grants policy highly desirable. Master’s degree in related area and five to seven years of financial management and leadership experience desirable, or Bachelor’s degree and ten or more years in financial and administrative leadership. Highly effective financial management, leadership, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills are highly desirable.
Anticipated Pay Range | 100,000 - 110,000/yr
Other Information | A six-month probationary period is required.
