Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.  | Master’s or other advanced degree, or five years relevant work experience in career counseling or career advising. Prior professional or para-professional work experience within a university setting. Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications  | Bachelor’s or advanced degree in counseling, healthcare/, or other related field. Experience in one-on-one or group career counseling/advising, especially within a university setting. Knowledge of career theory and practice, including career exploration and assessment, informational interviewing, experiential learning/internships, resume and cover letter writing, job interviewing, job search strategies, and preparing for graduate or professional school. Knowledgeable in undergraduate and graduate academic programs aligned with healthcare professions. Experience designing and/or delivering career readiness presentations. LPC certification or on track toward LPC certification. Experience recruiting, training, and supervising other counselors.

Job Description  | Career Counselors are responsible for providing a broad range of programs and services to the university’s students and alumni including personalized career counseling, recommending, and assisting with use of online resources, and providing educational workshops and presentations. Career counselors regularly collaborate with faculty and staff in order to support curricular and co-curricular career readiness initiatives.

Job Duties  | Provide individual career counseling to students/alumni, assisting with career exploration as well as the development and execution of internship, practicum, and job search strategies. Provide career support to, and draw information from the College of Health Professions, working collaboratively with faculty and staff to improve career readiness and professional opportunities for students and alumni. Assist faculty with development and implementation of programs, assignments, or events, designed to improve the career readiness of students and alumni. In collaboration with relevant department and university staff, represent Texas State University to current and prospective employers. This includes understanding relevant workforce needs and helping recruit and retain employers representing part-time, full-time, and experiential education opportunities, particularly those careers and industries specific to students and academic programs relevant to the College of Health Professions. Support and promote communications and marketing efforts of the department as well as relevant programming within assigned colleges, drafting regular communications for targeted releases to students, alumni, and employers. Assist with coordinating, planning, promoting, and executing the career center’s various job, internship, and graduate school fairs and other special events. Seek out and participate in relevant professional development and community engagement opportunities to continue developing knowledge, skills, and abilities required by the profession, staying current within the field and higher education trends. Represent the department and division on university committees and workgroups.
