Job Description 
Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The Career Services and Employer Relations Assistant provides administrative, program coordination support, and customer service support to the Career Services Office. This position assists with employer engagement, career readiness initiatives, student outreach, event support, and office operations. The Career Services and Employer Relations Assistant serves as a resource for students seeking career development assistance while helping maintain employment resources, employer relationships, and Career Services programs.

Functional Responsibilities:
Update data spreadsheets and reports to reflect accurate data for Career Services initiatives Manage employer contacts using the Handshake platform and other career services resources. Manage and assist with posting, updating, and monitoring employment opportunities across multiple platforms. Assist students with resume and cover letter development and provide basic career readiness support. Support student outreach efforts by generating engagement ideas and promoting Career Services programs and events. Assist with workshops, career fairs, employer information sessions, and other special events, including event promotion and logistics. Prepare materials for workshops, coaching sessions, and special events. Maintain inventory and stock of Career Services handouts and resources. Administer surveys and assist with collecting feedback from employers, students, and community partners. Assist with the operation and management of the Career Clothing Closet. Perform general office duties including answering phones, ordering supplies, scanning, copying, data entry, and customer service. Provide excellent customer service to students, alumni, employers, faculty, staff, and community partners. Perform other duties as assigned and assist the college during emergency operations as directed.

Special Assignments 
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications 
Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe applications. Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively follow up, follow through, and work independently. Demonstrated ability to organize, multitask, adapt to changing priorities, and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Ability to perform clerical tasks and maintain accurate records. Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail. Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
