General Description  | The Student Services Generalist is the primary contact with students who are in need of Career advising and guidance. The Generalist will be responsible for assisting students through career advising, exploration, and appropriate major sections in alignment with their career choice. The Generalist will perform academic advising as needed and will engage in institutional retention initiatives, oversee the Owl Leadership Academy, and support the Community College 3.0 initiatives established by the College

Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities 
• Provides direction, process overview and information to students, parents, non-traditional, and adult learners regarding: the College admission process, registration, financial aid, student account functions, College programs, activities and student services. Provides referrals for the Americans with Disabilities Act and other special needs.

• Monitors services and flows of traffic in the Student Development One Stop Centers as it relates to Career Services.

• Responsible for the oversight, utilization, and reporting of Career Services technology platforms, including VMock, Handshake, Focus 2, Stepping Blocks, Parker Dewey, EAB Navigate, and Forage, while providing training, support, and data analysis to advance student career readiness and engagement.

• Develops career and individual action plans through the use of EAB Navigate Journeys, and other supporting career tools to guide students toward on-time graduation and preparation for internship, experiential learning, and job placement to ensure career readiness.

• Coordinate effective communication to student body to market any and all career opportunities local and abroad. This includes, but is not limited to phone calls, text messages, emails, and utilizing retention platform tools to reach out to students.

• Oversee the Owl Leadership Academy, including the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and career development of student leaders. Ensure participants develop workforce-ready skills through alignment with the NACE Career Readiness Competencies.

• Collaborate with the academic division on updates and trainings pertaining to the NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers) Career Readiness Competencies .


• Assists with new adult learner student orientations and provides on-going information to students, potential students, and parents regarding policies, programs, and procedures.

• Reads, interprets, and communicates College policies and procedures.

• Recommend improvements in department procedures. Collaborate with other staff/administrators/faculty to identify improvements needed in procedures and communication.

• Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience 
• Outstanding customer service and communication skills.

• Experience working with diverse student populations.

• Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Competencies and Skills Required 
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with students, the general public, faculty, and other staff members.

• Must be a “quick study” in order to quickly grasp knowledge of policies and procedures relating to every aspect of student services that a prospective or current student may utilize.

• Analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to take required initiative to solve problems.

• Ability to collaborate with others.

• Commitment to student service and a diverse population.

• Must be comfortable with using multiple tech platforms to effectively assist students
Physical Demands and Work Environment  | • This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

• Some travel required.

Terms of Employment  | Full-time. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Flexible hours are required throughout the year, especially at peak times. Position may be required to work at any campus at any time. Employees must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
