Job Description
Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.
The Communications and Marketing Specialist position centers around working with internal and external partners to increase the College’s awareness by engaging target audiences. The Communications and Marketing Specialist supports overall institutional growth through strategic communication and marketing efforts.The Communication and Marketing Specialist will play a pivotal role in executing the communication and marketing strategies for VPCC and the Marketing and College Relations Department. This position is responsible for creating and disseminating content that enhances the College’s brand, supports student recruitment and retention efforts in general, and works to enhance the image of our Athletics and Workforce efforts specifically.

KSA's/Required Qualifications | Multiple years of experience and in communication, journalism, public relations or related field. Writing experience for all media platforms Basic photography skills are required for this role Understanding of website content management systems Familiarity with college athletics and academics; knowledge of workforce programs, including the skilled trades
Knowledge Content Creation: Familiarity with content creation, including writing and editing for various platforms (blogs, social media, newsletters, etc.). Marketing Principles: Strong understanding of traditional and digital marketing principles, including content marketing, social media marketing, and brand positioning. Photography and Visual Communication: Familiarity with still cameras and related equipment (flash, tripod, etc.) to capture visually appealing photos that support the brand.
Skills Written and Verbal Communications: Ability to craft clear, persuasive, and engaging messages across different formats, whether written, spoken, or visual. Project Management: Skill in organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple projects and campaigns to meet deadlines. Problem-Solving: Capability to troubleshoot and resolve challenges that may arise in campaigns, messaging, or branding efforts. Writing & Editing: Strong command of grammar, tone, and style across formats (blogs, ads, reports).
Abilities Collaborative Work: Capacity to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including sales, product, and customer support, to align marketing initiatives. Problem-Solving: Capability to troubleshoot and resolve challenges that may arise in campaigns, messaging, or branding efforts. Must have the ability to work independently or in a team environment. Ability to work at all campus locations.
