THE DEPARTMENT:
The Office of Student Success (OSS) at Cal Poly Pomona provides institutional leadership for advancing student success by developing and implementing strategies that promote academic achievement, persistence, graduation, and post-graduate success. OSS leads a coordinated and holistic approach to student success by aligning academic advising, learning support, career development, student engagement, and data-informed decision-making across programs including the Bronco Advising Center, Career Center, First Year Experience, PolyTransfer Program, and University Advising.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates an integrated communication strategy across Advising, Career, and Academic Engagement & Success portfolios
- Advises the Associate Provost for Student Success on communication priorities, messaging, and emerging needs
- Develops coordinated communication approaches connecting students with advising, academic support, and career development throughout the student lifecycle
- Leads communication and marketing strategy for Student Success signature events, career fairs, and employer engagement activities
- Provides lead work direction and mentoring to the Communications Specialist and Career Center marketing professional
- Provides strategic oversight of Billy Chat, including campaign strategy, audience segmentation, and platform effectiveness
- Leads assessment of communication strategies and channels, gathering data from Billy Chat, Tableau, websites, social media, and email platforms
- Analyzes student engagement with advising, academic support, and career services to identify communication gaps and opportunities
- Evaluates emerging communication technologies, including AI-powered platforms, text messaging, and social media
- Leads communications for special projects and institutional initiatives spanning multiple Student Success portfolios
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Valid driver's license
- Four years of relevant experience
- Thorough and advanced knowledge of marketing, branding, communications, and public relations
- Strong story development, journalistic writing, and advanced editorial skills
- Advanced skill in mentoring or overseeing the work of others
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience developing integrated communication and marketing plans for diverse audiences, preferably in higher education
- Experience leading complex communication projects and providing lead work direction
- Experience developing multi-channel campaigns and using analytics to improve communication strategies
- Familiarity with emerging communication technologies, including AI-enabled and digital engagement tools
Compensation
Job Classification: Marketing Communications Professional III. Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,877-$6,114 monthly. CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,877-$8,561 monthly. Full-Time, Probationary.
