Job Description 
Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a regional leader and preferred partner where quality learning experiences enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking and many other activities.

Germanna is seeking to hire a Communications Editor to play a critical role overseeing a college-wide style guide – effectively maintaining the “voice” of the college – and writing persuasive copy to be delivered across multiple channels including the college website, social media, advertising and email marketing. The position will allow the college to utilize email marketing to further enhance how the college reaches niche audiences. This position will create an immediate impact on how quickly and effectively key messages are delivered and greatly enhance our current focus on the college website, recruitment and development communications. This position is essentially the college storyteller, crafting powerful messages to be delivered across all channels to key audiences including prospective students and parents, graduates and alumni, prospective donors and current and returning students.

KSA's/Required Qualifications  | • 3+ years of experience in a related position
• Bachelor’s degree and/or the equivalent related experience
• Ability to meet marketing goals for a mid-sized, complex organization
• Ability to support successful marketing campaigns using multiple forms of media, as well as support the development goals and fundraising programs of the GCC Educational Foundation
• Ability to synthesize complex information into content that is easily understood by external audiences
• Possess excellent writing, proofreading, and copy-editing skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects from inception to completion
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends
• Knowledge of project management (Agile methodology preferred)
• Knowledge of AP style
• Knowledge of web style guides and branding best practices
• Knowledge of web accessibility and SEO best practices and a strong understanding of semantic mark-up
