Controller Full Description

Remote | Executive Finance Leadership | Mission-Driven Growth

Let’s Start With Why

Really Great Reading isn’t just growing — we’re scaling impact. Every system we build, every partnership we form, and every product we launch exists for one reason: helping students unlock literacy and lifelong confidence.

Behind that mission is a financial engine that must be precise, forward-thinking, and built for national growth.

This role isn’t about managing numbers in isolation. It’s about driving value creation, financial discipline, and operational scale — ensuring that evidence-based reading instruction reaches more students, educators, and communities nationwide.

We’re looking for a Controller who doesn’t just close books — but opens possibilities.

This is a role for a strategic operator. A builder. A financial storyteller who believes strong accounting is the foundation of innovation, trust, and sustainable impact.

If you see accounting as a leadership platform — not just a function — you’ll feel right at home here.

What You’ll Own

You will lead the integrity and evolution of our accounting operations while helping shape how financial insight drives executive decisions.

  • Elevating enterprise accounting processes that scale with growth
  • Delivering executive-ready financial reporting that tells a clear story
  • Strengthening internal controls and building audit-ready systems
  • Driving automation, efficiency, and smarter financial workflows
  • Partnering cross-functionally with People & Culture, Product, Sales, and Operations leaders

You’ll sit at the intersection of precision and strategy — where numbers meet vision.

Who You Are

You’re a finance leader who thrives in momentum. You don’t wait for clarity — you help create it.

You likely bring:
  • Deep GAAP expertise and strong accounting leadership experience
  • A builder’s mindset — improving systems, processes, and visibility
  • Confidence communicating with executives and non-finance partners
  • A love for clean processes, smart automation, and scalable infrastructure
  • The ability to balance operational rigor with strategic foresight

Bonus points if you’ve worked in EdTech, SaaS, publishing, or a fast-growing mission-driven organization.

CPA? We love to see it.

What Success Looks Like Here

Within your first year, you’ll help:
  • Strengthen enterprise financial governance
  • Streamline the close process and reporting cadence
  • Increase automation and operational efficiency
  • Provide leadership with clear, actionable financial insight
  • Build scalable accounting infrastructure for national growth

You won’t just maintain the system — you’ll help evolve it.
