The department of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking a Licensed Independent Mental Health Professional (Counselor) to join our team! The Counselor will be embedded in the College of Engineering (COE) and supports engineering students’ mental health care. The Counselor assists students in reaching their educational, developmental, and emotional goals by providing psychologically informed diagnostic services, treatment, consultation, and education. The College of Engineering provides students with comprehensive academic programs that allow them to fulfill their highest aspirations and ambitions. It is the primary intellectual resource for engineering instruction, research, and outreach in the state of Nebraska. The Counselor is responsible for creating a positive environment and mental health support in the COE through the development of prevention programming and direct counseling support.
The
Counselor will: Provide individual, group, and relationship counseling and psychotherapy with UNL Students. Be available and provide emergency response to students’ mental health emergencies. Conduct training, workshops, and classroom presentations as it relates to CAPS services. Interact and collaborate with other professionals within the College of Engineering. Collaborate and consult with professional colleagues across campus. Perform routine case management.
May work occasional weekend and evening hours when crises arise or other programming is needed.Once the Counselor has worked at CAPS for at least one year, they can choose to work an 11-month position with one month off in the summer.

Licensure as a LiMHP in the State of Nebraska.
Preferred Qualifications | Experience providing counseling and psychotherapy to traditionally underserved and diverse populations. Experience working in a comprehensive counseling center at a college or university is helpful. Exposure to stepped care and short-term models of counseling.
