The Career Readiness Education (CRE) Career Counselor leverages leadership, advocacy, and cross-campus collaboration to ensure all students gain meaningful access to career pathways and programs. Working closely with academic counselors and administrators, the CRE Career Counselor supports intentional guidance that aligns student interests and goals with postsecondary options, workforce readiness, and industry-aligned opportunities.

This is a full-time position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
  • Delivers individual and group career planning curriculum supporting student development; 
  • Analyzes student data and develops data-driven programs pathway retention; 
  • Provides an individual planning system to guide students toward post-secondary career work based, professional skills and career planning goals;   
  • Provides a support system that strengthens the efforts of teachers, counselors, and parents; 
  • Supports standardized, industry certification testing program; parent education; and staff development.  
  • Collaboration and Career Learning training with Academic Counselors  
  • Provides CTE Pathway and Program resource for Academic Counselors 
  • Support students with Pathway selection
  • Provides responsive services to individuals or groups on pathway and CTE course selection
  • Establish, support, and assist with virtual “Go Center” inside of the K12 Zone where students can get immediate help with exploring pathways and a one-stop-shop for pathway selection and career readiness resources.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:   
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field AND 
  • Experience advising, teaching or school career counselor OR 
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certificates and Licenses: Appropriate state School Guidance Counselor certification  

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  
  • Experience working in a virtual or hybrid educational environment
  • Knowledge of Texas CTE Programs, Pathways, and Career Clusters
  • Background in college and career advising and/or education policy
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Flexible schedule
  • Ability to pass required background and/or fingerprinting checks
  • Experience coordinating career-oriented clubs and extracurricular activities
  • Ability to travel at least once per month within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, and participate in school activities, open houses and orientations.
  • Experience in a customer service environment
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time
  • Ability to pass required background check
