Description
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and mission-driven Curriculum Writer to design and develop instructional materials specifically for a high-impact tutoring program aimed at improving student outcomes on the New York State English Language Arts (ELA) Regents Exam. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in secondary ELA instruction, a deep understanding of the Regents exam, and a passion for educational equity.

The ideal candidate will create engaging, standards-aligned content that supports targeted, small-group tutoring sessions, addressing the specific learning needs of students who require intensive academic support.

Key Responsibilities:
  •  Develop high-impact, scaffolded tutoring curriculum aligned with NYS Next Generation ELA Learning Standards and the ELA Regents Exam structure. 
  •  Create modular, flexible lesson plans and activities suitable for 1:1 and small-group tutoring environments. 
  •  Design practice assessments, reading selections, prompts, and model responses for key components of the Regents exam, including: 
    •  Part 1: Reading Comprehension 
    •  Part 2: Argument Essay 
    •  Part 3: Text-Analysis Essay 
  •  Incorporate strategies for accelerating learning, closing skill gaps, and building confidence in struggling learners. 
  •  Align curriculum materials with trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and student-centered teaching practices. 
  •  Collaborate with tutors, academic coordinators, and instructional leaders to ensure curriculum usability and effectiveness in real-time tutoring settings. 
  •  Iterate and revise materials based on tutor feedback, student data, and evolving program needs. 

Requirements
Qualifications:
  •  Bachelor’s degree in English, Secondary Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field (Master’s preferred). 
  •  3+ years of experience teaching high school ELA, preferably in New York State. 
  •  Demonstrated expertise in the NYS ELA Regents Exam format, scoring criteria, and content. 
  •  Experience developing curriculum for tutoring, intervention, or academic support programs. 
  •  Excellent writing and editing skills; ability to produce clear, concise, and engaging instructional content. 
  •  Knowledge of instructional scaffolding, differentiation, and literacy intervention strategies. 
  •  Comfort working in fast-paced, collaborative, and equity-focused educational environments. 

Preferred Qualifications:
  •  Experience working in high-dosage or high-impact tutoring programs. 
  •  Familiarity with the Science of Reading, UDL, and restorative teaching practices. 
  •  Experience using digital collaboration and curriculum development tools (e.g., Google Workspace, learning management systems, etc.). 
  •  Background in data-driven instruction or progress monitoring. 

Benefits
