Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Instructional System Designer. The Instructional System Designer (ISD) is responsible for the design, development, and revision of both instructor-led and e-Learning training programs for technical and non-technical audiences. This role requires advanced knowledge of Instructional Systems Design (ISD) methodologies and the ability to lead a team of subject matter experts, graphic designers, and content developers. The ISD develops course materials, instructor guides, student handouts, and evaluation tools while ensuring instructional content aligns with learning objectives and adult learning principles. The ideal candidate has strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills, as well as experience with training management tools and multimedia courseware development.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field
  • 1–20 years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in formal Instructional Systems Design (ISD) methodologies and adult learning principles
  • Experience developing both classroom-based and e-Learning training materials
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Macromedia (or similar) web-based course development tools
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with teams consisting of subject matter experts (SMEs), content providers, graphic designers, and end-users
  • Strong writing, editing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
  • 5 years of relevant experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s degree or MBA in a related field (may substitute for Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience)
  • Ph.D. in a related field (may substitute for Bachelor's degree and 7 years of experience)
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), SCORM-compliant content, and e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate)
  • Experience designing training for government, military, or technical audiences

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, develop, and revise instructional materials for instructor-led and e-Learning training
  • Lead curriculum development initiatives and guide instructional design teams
  • Apply ISD methodologies to ensure effective and engaging learning experiences
  • Develop and maintain instructor materials including course outlines, background materials, and training aids
  • Create student materials such as manuals, workbooks, handouts, completion certificates, and course evaluations
  • Maintain and update training catalogs as needed
  • Provide second-level training support and act as a resource for instructional best practices
  • Establish and promote standards and services for training programs
  • Work with cross-functional teams to gather input and feedback to improve training content
  • Ensure courseware aligns with learning objectives, audience needs, and instructional quality standards
