Job Summary
The Utah Museum of Fine Arts (UMFA) Visitor Services seeks a highly motivated and dependable
individual to support the team while working in an energetic and collaborative environment. This position is a great opportunity for those looking to further their experience in customer service, communications, and community outreach as well as for those looking to become more familiar and involved with the museum world in general.

The UMFA is the state and the University fine arts museum, serving as a vital cultural resource for Utah and the broader region. Established in 1914, the Museum stewards an encyclopedic collection of more than 22,000 objects representing 5,000 years of human creativity across the globe. Through its exhibitions, programs, and collections, the UMFA advances understanding of the visual arts and their role in shaping and reflecting the human experience.

Under the supervision of the Visitor Services Supervisor the Visitor Services Specialist’s primary responsibility is to deliver excellent customer service by welcoming guests to the Museum, maintaining knowledge of exhibitions, events, Museum departments, processing transactions accurately, guiding visitors in the right direction as questions arise, and properly facilitating our public programs.

This position is less than 20 hours per week and may require weekends and some evenings.
Responsibilities
Provides excellent customer service to Museum guests
a. Greets each guest with a friendly face and helpful attitude
b. Ability to multi-task and prioritize
c. Accurately process transactions
d. Answers phone and responds to voicemail

Demonstrates museum knowledge
a. Responsible for general knowledge of Museum operations and departments
b. Awareness of current exhibitions and programs and understanding about works in our permanent collection
c. Receives updates via email, reviews general calendar and responds to email correspondence
d. Proficient in selling memberships and member benefits
e. Assist customers with calendar, exhibition, program and event questions

Maintains a team player attitude
a. Accomplish opening and closing tasks both independently and in small teams
b. Receive deliveries; check for accuracy and approve packing slips
c. Restock/check inventory levels of products and supplies
d. Remove all trash and food debris daily
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Customer Service Representative, I: Requires little to no related experience.
Preferences
A successful candidate possesses exceptional customer service skills, is a self-starter with a dedication to quality, presentation and cleanliness. Reliability and dependability is a must.
Previous experience in retail or another customer driven environment.
Multilingual/Bilingual abilities are a plus.
