Job Summary  | The Program Director of Data Governance serves as UTA’s SB475-mandated Data Governance Officer (DGO) for UTA, where the position supports the Chief Analytics and Data Officer and regularly interacts on matters of strategy and policy with senior leadership and campus constituents, as well with state and national leaders in the area of data governance. This position oversees the strategic goal to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the enterprise data governance program, ensuring the availability, usability, and integrity of data across the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities  | In collaboration with CDO and analytics leadership, develop and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy aligned with the organization’s data management goals and regulatory requirements. Partnering with CDO and analytics leadership, manage data governance policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring consistency across all business units. Establish and lead a data stewardship program, partnering with data owners, custodians, and stewards across the enterprise to implement data governance practices. Lead enterprise metadata management and data catalog initiatives, ensuring comprehensive and accurate documentation of data assets. Facilitate data governance councils and working groups to prioritize governance initiatives and resolve data-related issues. Provide training and awareness programs to educate staff on data governance practices and responsibilities. Represent UTA at national meetings, conferences, and professional development opportunities related to the data governance field.
Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business or related field required. Seven (7) years of management experience in data or analytics leadership roles, with at least three (3) years specifically focused on data governance or data quality management, within a higher education or mid-to-large sized corporate business environment. Demonstrated expertise in using and implementing data governance tools.
Preferred Qualifications  | Master’s degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business or related field. Data governance or data management certifications (such as CDMP, DGSP). Experience in an enterprise-wide, cross-functional role required, with demonstrated collaboration, team building, and customer service focuses.. Expert experience creating enterprise-wide policies and frameworks in complex, multi-stakeholder environments to drive adoption and ensure compliance. Experience with professional data governance organizations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  | Expert knowledge of metadata management, data lineage, data cataloging, and data stewardship practices. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to work effectively across business and technical teams. Expert analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
